Chapter 17 – Date Night

After I was done with the board I did a little victory dance in the office with my dad.

“How did you manage to pull this off?” he asked me happily.

I shrugged, “It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Damon. He’s the one who arranged everything.”

My dad nodded, “Well, I’m glad you have him then.”

Later that day we went back home together and my dad told her everything that happened at the office.

“I’m so glad I’m leaving the company to her, she’s handled it so well,” he said to her.

I grinned, “Daddy, don’t give me too much credit.”

My mom smiled, “I’m happy too, Lily, it’s your birthright. Now, let’s celebrate over a meal.”

Just then my phone rang and I excused myself to answer the call. It was an unknown number. “Hello, who is this?” I asked.

Damon’s smooth voice sounded over the receiver, “Princess, you left me hanging. What time an I picking you up?”

I smiled when I realized it was him.

‘How did you get my number, I can’t remember giving it to you,” I said.

He laughed, “There are a lot of things you don’t remember, Princess. Now about our date…”

sighed, “Alright, fine. You did lead us to victory today so you deserve a reward. Let’s go fo dinner.”

‘It’s a date. I’ll come pick you up at seven,” he said.

‘Alright,” I agreed and ended the call.

When I turned my parents were standing behind me I almost fainted from fright.

‘Mom, Dad, you’re gonna give me a heart attack!” I groaned.

My parents smiled mischievously.

Sorry, we just heard the word ‘date’ so we got so excited,” my mom said.

groaned, “It’s just dinner with Damon.”

Who happens to be the man you’re getting married to,” my dad said.

‘It’s an arranged marriage, Dad,” I pointed out.

My parents followed me as I went upstairs to my bedroom and they threw open my closet.

‘We’ve dreamed of this day for years,” my mom said.

‘For our little girl to go on her first date,” my dad added, “I’d warn the guy to bring her home before 9 pm and not hurt her else I’d hunt him.”

stared at my parents, they looked so excited as they brought out various outfits on my bed. realized I’ve robbed them of a lot of things. They didn’t get to watch me go to prom or take

prom pictures with them. They didn’t watch me graduate college and take my certificate. But the most painful one was that they would never have a grandchild from me.

Tears clouded my eyes as I tried to hide it. I couldn’t let them see me like this.

“Oh honey,” my mom sighed when she saw me, “I’m sorry if we’re being a bit overwhelming.”

I shook my head, “No, it’s not that. It’s just the fact that I deprived you both of so many things by never returning and now the one thing I can give you now is impossible because I… I can’t give birth again. Due to the trauma I lost the ability…” I trailed off tears running down my cheeks. “Oh baby,” my mom cooed as she hugged me. My dad joined in the hug and they rubbed circles on my back.

It’s alright, baby, don’t push yourself okay. We love you and you’re more than enough for us,” the consoled me.

I stayed in their arms for a while before I started feeling better. I wiped off my tears and sat down.

“Well, glam me up for this date then,” I said.

Giggling excitedly, my parents brought out my outfit and my mom did my hair and makeup while I slipped into my outfit.

By the time I was done, Damon was already waiting for me downstairs with my father.

My mom stared at me with a smile, “You’re perfect, my darling.”

I smiled, “Thank you, Mommy.”

Then I descended the stairs and I felt Damon’s eyes on me. It made me blush with the way he was staring at me.

“You’re stunning,” he said the moment I got to him. He handed me a single rose and I smiled.

“Thank you,” I grinned.

My dad stepped forward, “Don’t touch a single hair on her head. Bring her back before midnight.” I laughed, “We’ll be fine, Dad.”

Damon led me outside, still staring at me as I got into the car. I waved my parents goodbye as we drove off.

We arrived at the restaurant and it was a rooftop dinner. The setting was so beautiful, it brought

tears to my eyes.

Jacob never did anything like this for me all through our four years of fake marriage. I’ve always wanted him to but there was always the excuse of work when in reality he was with Nadine.

“This is beautiful,” I gushed.

“Not as beautiful as you, Lily,” he breathed.

We ate dinner in silence. Damon won’t stop staring at me. Then finally the music came on and

he extended a hand.

“Dance with me, Princess.”

I took his hand and we began slow dancing. The intensity of his stares made me blush and look

away.

His hands wrapped firmly around my waist as he pulled me close. Then a small grin appeared on his lips.

“Am I not getting any reward for my performance today, Princess?” he asked me.

I frowned, “Isn’t this date reward enough?”

“Nope. I want something else.”

I groaned, “What do you want? Water? Wine? H-”

“A kiss,” he interrupted me sharply.

My lips parted slightly as my breath caught in my throat.

“What?” I asked.

“I want to kiss you, Princess. May I?”

I was speechless and I watched as he leaned toward me. His lips were a few inches from mine, he was almost closing the distance when suddenly I blurted.

“I can’t have children!”
