‘INCOMING!‘ I yell as I kick the clinic door in. Cyrus and I are hauling Damon’s big ass down the clinic hall with Nile and Garrett dragging Theo. We haul them into a double room at the clinic as Eric and his team rush in to take over.
Battered does not begin to describe the condition Damon is in. I think the only thing that kept him alive was the skin–on–skin contact his mate was providing him. Gashes, stab wounds, bites, bruises, and blood cover Damon’s hody.
A lot of blood.
I can also see the bone in his forearm.
Theo looks slightly better, telling me Damon went off the rails over his mate. Alphas will go insanely feral over threats to their mates, whether the threats are real or not. He more than likely got lost in a haze of bloodlust in and out of wolf form. It can also be emotionally challenging
for them to return to reality from that haze.
Damn it.
I’m failing at every damn decision I make regarding the trafficking ring and this pack.
We step away from them, watching machines roll in and IV poles swirling around the room. “Come on, we need to let them work.” I look over in the hall and see Damon’s mate covered in blood and wearing essentially a bathing suit. I turn and exit the room, coming up to her.
I would call her Damon’s alleged mate, but the look on her face tells me there is no doubt this is her, and judging by how she looks, she put up a fight, too. Her scent smells vaguely familiar, but she needs medical attention before I talk to her.
This she–wolf could hold a lot of answers we need. “I think we need to get you down to a room to be looked at when they can. We can do our
best bandaging you until they can get to you.”
‘I’m not leaving him,” the she–wolf is watching from the window, trembling. It doesn’t help that it is purposely cold in here.
“Nile, get her a blanket.” I nod toward the empty room.
“Thank you. Alpha, I presume?” Her eyes never leave Damon’s body. At least, what she can see through the staff running circles around Damon. Eric, the lead healer, is laying hands on him in various areas, trying to speed up his healing.
“You presume right,” I answer her, attempting to keep my aura subdued enough not to startle her.
‘He is my Gamma. A close friend, and a shifter you should be proud of.” Damon can fill her in on his past later.
When he wakes up.
He will.
“I am. She faintly stniles at me and then turns back to the window.
“Did he violate the no–kill order?” At this point, I should return and kill them all.
“They tried not to….. the girls and I tried to help. I am not certain, but it happened quickly and violently.” Nile hands her the blanket, and she thanks him, pulling it around her. It looks scratchy as hell. I mind–link Ayla to go full omega mode to get this she–wolf what she needs.
“I’m glad and at the same time sorry you she–wolves were in that situation.”
‘We have been in plenty of those situations before. Don’t worry about it.”

These are the only options I see: Uno, we go back and kill any shifter up there the girls can identify as being present tonight. Two, we burn that bitch down. Four, we wait until these two are better and then….”
“You skipped three.” I interrupt Cyrus, which usually causes me a headache.
“I didn’t skip it. I said it in my head because it is vile and Raven is off somewhere and I don’t want to waste good foreplay material. That reminds me to ask…..
“Why the hell are you two naked anyway? I groan and sigh loudly, 1000% sure I do not want to know, but cannot stop myself from asking,
‘See Thane, when an unhinged, mentally unstable Alpha meets a rare, violent, equally unstable Alpha she–wolf, they get naked and….”
“We get it….we get it. Please go put some clothes on.” I growl. All I need is Damon’s mate to reject him because of how damn weird this pack seems to be getting.
“Gladly…I do not need anybody attacking me for my meat in here.” Cyrus runs his fingers through his curls and heads in the opposite direction.
“Sorry about that.” I turn and apologize to Damon’s mate.
“It’s fine. I rode with them here. They are….interesting,” she smiles briefly before the gravity of the situation hits her again.
“What is your name? I’m Thane if I haven’t said that already.” I know I haven’t. I’m trying to make small talk to keep us both from focusing on the fact that he may not make it.
“My name is Amani.”
“Is there anybody that works there that I could pay to cover this up?” I’m sure the dancers and workers know enough shifters to change the narrative of what happened.
“I already took care of it. Crystal is an omega, and she is using the cover of her pre–heat to spin it to appear as though the Alphas went crazy over attempts to rut her, and it set off a chain of events. The girls will all be expecting payments, though, for going along with it. Judging by the redhead’s sports car, I didn’t think that would be a problem to agree to. Please do right by them.”
“I like you, and I think you will fit in well here, if you choose to stay.” I hope Damon chooses to keep her. She is loyal already. That can’t be bought, and it isn’t worth losing over past trauma that he will hopefully tell her about.
“I’ll stay. I do not have anywhere to go outside of the brothel. That is a story for another day. One I will share with him when he is better….he WILL be better.” Amani says confidently as she watches as they continue to work on Damon. Theo is groaning, but not speaking. I need to mind–link his family and Damon’s aunt.
“I mind–linked my mate, and she will be bringing you some things. Tell he what you need and she will make it happen. She’s also a lot more thoughtful than I am, so be prepared.” Ayla is already asking me about size comparisons and other questions I do not know how to answer, nor do I want to. I think answering any question about how big of a bra I think she would wear would be grounds for maiming me if I guessed right.
1 am not sure if pre–pregnant Ayla would feel the same way, but hormonal, angry, bobcat Ayla that I hear in the mind–link might. The more questions I refuse to answer about Amani’s body type, the more growly she is getting. She could also find nothing wrong with my answers, I have no desire to chance it.

“Damon wasn’t in the brothel to get his rocks off, was he?” Amani speaks quietly to me as we wait for answers.
‘No. No, he was not. He was on a mission and blew his cover.” I sigh, trying not to allow my mind to conjure up all the scenarios of how this night might have gone down for them.
“I’m sorry.”
“Do not be sorry. I am glad he found you. I just wish it were under different circumstances.”

“Do you think….do you think that he won’t accept me?‘ Amani’s lip quivers, and her voice is shaky. I think she is referring to rejection and thinking about that when you have your mate, physically hurts..
There is no other way to describe it.
I think he would be more concerned about you not accepting him.”
