Useless (Dual POV Chapter)
Thane
Dancing with Little Wolf started innocently enough, but a few sways of her hips against his leg had me thinking about Little Wolf in some very Inappropriate ways.
‘Im not doing too bad for having no dancing experience.” she laughs as I spin her out from me, and I quickly pull her back in and whisper into her ear, “You’re doing great Little Wolf. I’m proud of you.” I leave out my thoughts that the fact she is doing anything after what she went through is a miracle, let alone finding enjoyment in it.
“She sways her hips more as I keep her arms wrapped tightly around her, bent down so I can watch her dance and feel her against me.
“You two better get a room before that pup jumps out to make room for another in front of all of us!” Monica yells, laughing while she dances with a shifter male I don’t know yet.
“Good advice.” Thane kisses my cheek, and I laugh as he whirls me around and takes my hand, leading me off the dance floor. We walk past the food service, and Thane pulls me into an enclove between two buildings.
“I can’t wait until we get home to kiss the sweet lips,” I pull her to me, my lips finding hers. I kiss Ayla deeply and sensually. Our lips move across each other, at times hungry for each other’s jaws and ears.
I lift her and press myself against her wet, throbbing heat. I bent down, breathing hard into her ear, taking it into my mouth and slowly breathing until her body was covered in goosebumps and she was continuously mbaning.
The crowd remains loud dancing and cheering in the background, but the hairs on my neck start to stand up. I pull away from Ayla fast and look around, surveying for a threat.
Time stands still as everything happens at once.
A flash of light
A blast of heat
A wave of wind
A wall of debris
The screaming in the air.
I hear it all as a muffle because I am encased in a blue ball of power as Little Wolf clings to me. Her instincts were quick, but there was no way her shield could reach far enough to stop the destruction that just happened.
“Help, somebody, help!”
“I can’t find him…I can’t find him.”
I threw Ayla over my shoulder, which is quicker than her running, and mind–link the pack to remain calm and search the rubble for the wounded
The dance floor blew.
We were just there.
I could have lost her.
could have lost everything I loved.
Raven and Cyrus run up the path as I arrive at the dance floor turned–bomb site.
“Raven get her out of here now!” I yell as Ayla turns to me shaking her head no aggressively.
Im not leaving. I want to help. We must look for…”

“You can help by going home, Ayla…..NOW!” Thane motions with his chin at Raven to take me. She grabs my arm and starts pulling me away.
“I’m not leaving. I can help. I need to do something. I am the Luna for fate’s sake!” I pull on my arm as she bends down and hauls me over her shoulder, moving me around like a sack of potatoes is getting damn old.
“We both know you can’t use your power in public yet, so don’t even think about it or I will be forced to do the same and we will finally see if I am faster than your shield.” She runs toward her car, not caring that she is making me sick.
“Thu dare threaten me?” I growl at her.
“See, you are coming into your Luna role nicely,” Raven teases and I want to scratch her eyes out for it.
The fact Thane just motioned for me to be dragged out of there is infuriating enough. Monica was dancing there. I need to see if she is okay. I need to help.
the door already open.
Raven places me in the passenger seat and slams the door shat. She is in the car, pulling me backward before I can get the
“You are cheating using your gifting!” I grit out to her, beyond livid now. I can feel the tears welling up in my eyes from frustration. Nobody hears me. I haven’t felt this helpless since I was rescued.
Thane put me in charge of your safety. I swore an oath to it. I will do whatever it takes to follow through on whether you like it or not.” Raven explains her actions, her face emotionless as if throwing me around and driving away from an explosion is commonplace.
“You know that we could be helping.” I point my finger back in the direction of the ceremony as she speeds away in this damn race car of hers.
“You don’t understand. Thane is doing his job. He can’t do his job if he is worrying about the safety of his Luna and pup. Thane could lose it seeing you down there. He doesn’t want to risk it and your safety. He is doing this for your own good.
“He is doing this out of his fear of losing his family!” I yell; it is evident that he has a fear of losing his family. He has fought not to deal with that grief and pain every day, and now I am experiencing firsthand, his decisions made from fear, and I don’t like it.
That may be the case, but it doesn’t change my oath. Sit back and get comfortable because we are going to be spending the night together.” Raven says as she turns the radio on and drives faster. This raven is cold and mission driven. Her eyes are alert and cold, vigilant and intense. This Raven is my friend. This one is a soldier.
We pulled up to the house and I ran toward the door. I am frustrated beyond belief, angry, and on the verge of exploding.
“Don’t think about running. It won’t do you any good.” I hear behind me as I head up the stairs to my nest. I slam the door to the bedroom and walk through the adjoining door straight into my nest.
I want to mind–link Thane and find out what’s happening, and if everyone is okay, but I know that it would be a distraction. I didn’t see the explosion, but I heard a crack and reacted. If I had been practicing my shielding more throughout the day, maybe I could have shielded that far. I fear that the
day I found out I could, I would be heavily grieved.
I
I ran out of my nest and to the toilet, puking up all the wonderful food I just ate. I can’t feel Thane when I tug on the bond which means he closed it off. I have no way of knowing what he is feeling and if he is safe. We need to talk when he returns.
I burst out in tears on the bathroom floor, waiting for answers.
