He repeated this assertion over and over, reminding Amelia not to forget who had come to her rescue.
Amelia, however, found the whole situation absurd. ‘Yeah, what does this have to do with me? He asked Angela to splash him with sulfuric acid. What

“I’ve settled the medical bills. Have a good rest,” Amelia said, got up, and intended to leave.
Walter and Melissa were taken aback. “Amy, where are you off to?”
“Home, of course. My husband is waiting for me,” Amelia replied, emphasizing the word “husband” with a touch of sarcasm.
Melissa’s face became gloomy. ‘A vegetable knows nothing. How could he be waiting for you? Are you trying to intimidate us with the Kingsley?”
“Amy, how are you getting along in the Kingsley family?” Walter inquired cautiously.
“Not bad,” Amelia responded ambiguously, her tone deliberately vague.
“If things aren’t going well, just tell me…” Walter’s words were cut short as he seemed to pull at the wound on his back, his eyes welling up and his breath hitching.
Melissa could bear it no longer and blurted out, “Just worry about yourself. Our family is on the brink of bankruptcy. What else can you do?”
“Amy is my daughter. I’ll protect her at all costs, even if it means losing everything I have,” Walter proclaimed loudly.
A young nurse who had come to draw blood remarked enviously, “Mr. Edwards, you love your

Amelia frowned, appearing to waver in her décision.

“Oh, it hurts..” Walter groaned dramatically, “Amy, I have to rest. Be ready to go to the company
tomorrow.”
“Dad, aren’t you concerned that I might ruin your company?” Amelia inquired, a hint of defiance in her
tone.
Walter’s pulse quickened momentarily, but he swiftly regained his composure and chuckled, “No, not at all. Since you’re capable of overseeing Kingsley Group, then Edwards Group will be no problem for you.”
“In that case, I’ll have a try,” Amelia agreed, her tone implying reluctance.
Walter’s face lit up with joy.
“But-” Amelia changed the subject, causing Walter’s heart to sink with worry.
“But what?” he asked anxiously.
“If I do anything to harm the company’s interests, Dad, don’t blame me,” Amelia warned, her voice firm.
“Of course, I won’t,” Walter nodded vigorously.
Given the dire circumstances facing Edwards Group, there was no interest. Whoever took the helm now would be inheriting a sinking ship.
Tomorrow, what awaited Amelia were not just the creditors demanding payment, but also employees clamored for their overdue wages.
“Alright, I’ll go there tomorrow,” Amelia said, glancing at the clock. “It’s getting late. I need to head home.”
“Okay,” Walter replied nonchalantly.
“Amy, let me walk you out,” Melissa offered politely, escorting Amelia to the door and watching her leave.
As soon as Amelia was out of sight, Melissa closed the ward door with a flourish and turned to Walter with excitement. “Honey, you’re so clever.”
“Well, she’s far too naive to outmaneuver me,” Walter scoffed.
“I’m sorry you have to suffer for that,” Melissa said, her voice tinged with sadness.

“Without a doubt,” Walter replied with a smirk. “She won’t be able to walk away from Edwards Group tomorrow without footing the bill.”
“That’s great. She’ll help us settle all of the company’s debts this time,” Melissa said.
“Definitely,” Walter agreed.
As dusk settled, Landon listened to the ticking clock, a sense of unease creeping over him.
‘It’s so late, why hasn’t Amelia returned yet? Is she caught up with work, or has something happened?”
He wanted to reach out to someone, but his concerns went unheard. All he could do was lie in bed, waiting for Amelia to come home or for someone to reach out to him with an update.
Every minute that passed was an agony that almost drove him mad. Finally, the sound of the door opening and the familiar footsteps brought relief.

“Eleven o’clock,” Amelia replied, collapsing wearily onto the sofa.

“Landon, I almost didn’t make it back today,” Amelia said, leaning back against the sofa.
Landon becamed worried, and he quickly asked, ‘What happened?‘

“Who’s it? I won’t let him get away with it,‘ Landon fumed, instinctively thinking that some lecherous man took advantage of Amelia during her networking for him.
‘Damn. Dare to hurt my wife? I will teach him a lesson.’
“My father,” Amelia said, leaving Landon speechless.
“He set a trap for me to take over Edwards Group,” Amelia explained.
Landon was well aware of Edwards Group’s dire situation. It was on the brink of collapse, hanging by a thread.
But with Kingsley Group’s intervention, it could be revived.

Landon felt dejected, thinking, ‘I haven’t even finished speaking. Why did she run away? Angry? I’m not wrong. She’s obviously being foolish.’ After waiting for a while, when Amelia still hadn’t returned, Landon couldn’t help but call out to her with a guilty conscience in his heart. ‘Amelia.‘
