Chapter 2
There I was, sitting next to my bestie,
Scarlett, on the sofa, scrolling through
TikTok.
She suddenly stopped, her eyes glued to the
screen. I leaned over to see what was up, and
damn!
Paparazzi shots of her hubby, Owen, with
Willow Sinclair, his childhood crush who had
just returned from Europe.
They were holding hands, looking real cozy.

Willow was like the Hayes brothers‘ dream girl. We’d only heard about her from their
sweet, oblivious mom.
“Willow never calls me anymore. I miss her so
much!” she’d whine. “Girls, one of you should
call Willow and see when she’s coming home,
okay?”
Scarlett looked like she was about to crack.
But she quickly composed herself and asked,
“I’m thinking of getting a divorce. You in?”
I was only like 10% on board.
Ever since we were kids, I’d been Scarlett’s
sidekick. She studied science, so I studied
science. She went to Harvard, so I went to
Harvard. She married into the Hayes family,
and I followed right along.
But my husband hadn’t been caught having
dinner with his ex, so was divorce a little
extreme?
Just as I was hesitating, she upped the ante.
“Owen signed over his paychecks to me. Girl,
I got you. We ditch them, we each get two
hot male models and travel the world.”
Okay, now I was 40% interested
Male models sounded nice, but four dicks…
Might not even be as good as Justin, you
know?
“Ten! Ten male models!”
That put me at 80%.
My eyes widened, ready to say “Yes!”
But my last shred of sanity was holding me
back.
Then my phone buzzed. A headline flashed
across the screen: “Newcomer Willow Sinclair
Lands Hayes Corporation’s Annual
Endorsement Deal! Contract Worth $50
Million!”
The picture showed her cutting the ribbon
with Justin.
She was smiling, looking so smug.
And behind her, my deadbeat husband was
gazing at her with such depth.

He never looked at me like that.
Every time I make a joke, he just stares at me
like I’m crazy and says, “Are you okay?”
I steeled myself and said, “I’m in!”
Scarlett was thrilled and immediately called
her lawyer.
She went off about property division like a
pro.

When she mentioned taking half of the Hayes
family fortune, my eyes popped.
That’s a lot of money.
She was even haggling with the lawyer on the
phone, saying we should get a discount for
filing two divorces at once.
That’s why Scarlett was the leader, and I was
the follower. She was just better at
everything.
I stared at my phone wallpaper, a wedding
photo of Justin and me.
I was still hesitant. After all, Justin did give
me money.
I piped up, “Um… the models better be good.”
Scarlett turned to me, her face suddenly stiff.
Lost in my fantasy, I kept going, “They have
to be better in bed than Justin!”
Scarlett covered her mouth and pointed
behind me, trembling.

Before I could turn around, a familiar hand
grabbed the back of my neck and yanked me
next to him.
His voice was ice. “I’m great in bed, so why are you leaving?”
