When I woke up, I felt tired.
I hadn’t drank in a long time.
I opened my eyes and found that I wasn’t in
my apartment.
I’d been here before.
When we wanted to escape the paparazzi.
I never saw my neighbors.
Later, I found out that Owen had bought this
building.
Owen was lying on the floor.
I slapped him.
He sat up, with swollen eyes.
“How did I get here?”
“You were drunk, and you called me.
I threw a pillow.
“Why are you here?”
“My mom said I was useless and hadn’t
earned money back.”
I rubbed my forehead and prepared to leave.
He pulled my arm. “Have some breakfast.”
Okay, I’m hungry.
I never thought Owen was smart, but he
didn’t waste words.
He said, “My ex–wife loves this jam.”
—
I said, “My heart is like this egg, divided in
two.”
When my ad came on, he said, “She’s so
pretty.”
<
Then Willow’s ad came on, and he said
nothing.
I said, “Praise her.”
He said, “I liked her.
“But I never imagined us together.
“You want to be free and you want a career. I
don’t think she is a threat to us.”
I couldn’t eat, so I got up.
He didn’t follow me. He only said, “You’ll be
back, right?”
I stopped but refused to turn around.
