Chapter 894
Benny took a sip of his red wine and said casually, “Trust me, get your mom a man,”
Jonathan’s eyes sharpened as he stared at Benny, thinking he had lost his mind.
Benny curved his fingers and tapped the table. “I’m not joking. From what I’ve observed, Mrs. Lynn is starved for love. She’s been alone all these years, and that’s why she needs attention. Get her some guys to keep her company”
Jonathan frowned. “I tried to set her up on dates, but she refused. She said she was done with marriage.”
Benny felt speechless. “I’m not saying get you a stepdad. I mean, get a few men to give your mother emotional support, got it? Like taking her out and having dinner with her–not about marriage or papers.”
Jonathan frowned again.
Seeing Jonathan’s obvious disbelief, Benny added, “Trust me. I know women well, and I can tell she needs someone to spoil her. Get her a few men who’ll shower her with sweet words, keep her busy, and she won’t have time to bother you.”
“I’ll think about it,” Jonathan said, catching sight of Michael riding his scooter over, so he quickly dropped the subject.
Benny also saw Michael. The kid, just over three, was pretty good on his scooter.
“Mr. Daddy Lime, I’m hungry,” Michael said, parking his scooter in front of Jonathan and hugging his leg with a little pout. The nanny wasn’t around.
Jonathan picked up Michael and said, “Sure. I will make you some food.”
Seeing this, Benny grabbed his coat and stood up. “I’m leaving then. Just call me if you
need anything.”
Michael turned to look at Benny, saying, “Bunny, you can have my scooter. Just take it home.”
Benny looked at the little scooter, feeling both amused and speechless.
Jonathan made Michael’s favorite meatballs, steak, and some soup. The little one swallowed and said, “I’m going to call Mom and tell her to come home
for dinner.”
“Wait a second.” Jonathan reached out and stopped Michael. “Try this. I’ll call her.”
Michael nodded and watched as Jonathan walked toward Teresa’s bedroom.
Jonathan didn’t make the call. Instead, he sat quietly on Teresa’s bed for a while. Her scent lingered in the room, and he pulled a pillow from the bed and held it close, breathing in the faint trace of her.
When Jonathan finally came out of the room, he saw Michael sitting there, just staring at the food without taking a single bite.
“Why didn’t you eat?” Jonathan asked.
“I’m waiting for Mom so we can eat together. Mr. Daddy Lime, did you call her?” Michael asked.
“I did,” Jonathan replied. He felt a little sad as he gently stroked Michael’s hair. “She’s having some issues at your old house. I’ll go get her tonight, okay?”
Michael nodded and began to eat. He trusted Jonathan fully.
Jonathan wasn’t hungry. He just quietly watched Michael eat.
Michael took a meatball from his plate and put it in Jonathan’s mouth. “Mr. Daddy Lime, aren’t you hungry? It tastes really good.”
“Alright, I’ll try some.” Jonathan nodded and began to eat as well.
Chapter 894
After dinner at Rosary Estates, Teresa noticed Jennifer rolling up her sleeves while washing dishes, revealing a long scar
“What happened to your arm?” Teresa grabbed Jennifer’s arm, frowning at the long, scary scar that reached her forearm
“It’s okay. I got it when I was a kid.” Jennifer pulled her arm back calmly and rolled her sleeve down.
“It hasn’t even scabbed yet. It’s clearly a fresh wound. How did you get it?” Teresa pressed.
Jennifer pursed her lips, said nothing, and kept washing dishes.
Teresa asked her whether Irene hurt her.
Jennifer said casually as she kept washing the dishes, “I got into a fight with a thief in a motel. He cut me with a knife.”
Teresa was shocked. Jennifer had been taking time off alone, staying in a cheap motel in a strange town to save money. The small room was dark, the door broken. One night, a thief broke in and rummaged around her bed, waking her up.
The thief saw that Jennifer was somewhat attractive and got aroused, Jennifer fought desperately with him. During the struggle, she grabbed the bedside lamp and smashed it onto his head.
Enraged, the thief grabbed his knife and cut Jennifer’s arm. The noise was loud and caught the front desk’s attention. When he came and caught the thief, blood from Jennifer’s arm was all over the floor.
Teresa couldn’t help but say seriously, “When you’re alone in a remote place, you really should find a decent hotel.”
Jennifer smiled bitterly. “I didn’t have much cash left, so I thought I should try to save money.”
“Wait, did you get nothing from divorcing Donald?” Teresa asked.
Jennifer answered quietly, “Yes, I didn’t want anything from him.”
Teresa frowned in confusion. “Why? Come on, you lost a child. Didn’t he give you anything to make you feel better?”
Jennifer explained, “I told Donald it was my decision to have the abortion. I didn’t want any compensation.”
Teresa suddenly understood. “Why didn’t you tell him the baby was lost because of a car accident?”
Jennifer’s eyes filled with tears. “Just like you, I needed a firm reason to divorce.”
Teresa fell silent, not sure what to say. She bought some scar treatment creams online and had them shipped over.
She said, “I got you some medicated creams. They’ll arrive shortly.”
“Thank you, Teresa,” Jennifer replied, feeling touched.
Teresa suggested, “You better tell Donald the miscarriage was caused by a car accident. He needs to know. Even if you don’t want to tell him, you’ve got to hash out the divorce settlement properly.”
Jennifer shook her head as she kept washing the dishes. “No. His salary is not that high, and the only thing of real value he has is the house his parents bought. I don’t want to take anything from him.”
Teresa fell silent again, realizing Jennifer’s situation was much like her own years ago, except she was harder since she was pregnant.
Jennifer dried her hands and said, “I’ll leave once the divorce paperwork is done next week.”
“Where are you going? Are you going to Ms. Nelson?” said Teresa.
