Teresa fell silent. She looked up, her face streaked with tears. She wiped them away and said, “No, Lucas. You just get out of the botanikal, tour should rest. Don’t worry about me.”
Lucas replied, “I’m fine now. If you need any help, just let me know.
He truly meant what he said. If there was anything he could do, he wanted to help Teresa and Jonathan
Jonathan had once saved his life at the airport, and it was also Jonathan who found out that Peggy wasn’t his mother, helping him get out of
that hellhole.
In Lucas’s eyes, Jonathan was a man who truly valued friendship and loyalty. If Jonathan ended up as his brother–in–law, he’d be on board with that.
Teresa frowned and continued, “Some things are just better left unsaid. Talking about them only makes things worse, and there’s nothing that can be done.”
“Come on, nothing’s impossible. Can’t Jonathan help you with it?” Lucas asked.
Teresa fell silent again. Noticing how she was dodging the question, Lucas decided to ask something else. “I’m curious why you two got divorced? Mind telling me about it?”
“Lucas, I’m sorry, but I don’t want to talk about it,” Teresa said.
She could talk to Jennifer about what happened in her marriage back then, but she couldn’t bring herself to revisit all that with Lucas. She didn’t want to reopen those old wounds.
Lucas sighed helplessly and patted Teresa on the shoulder. “Alright, I won’t push you. When you’re ready to talk, just let me know. Don’t feel pressured.”
“Okay, thanks,” Teresa said.
“You silly, you don’t have to thank me,” Lucas said gently, trying to comfort her.
After dinner, Teresa was in her room sorting work when she received a message: [Can you come out? I’m downstairs at your place and won’t come up. I have something important to tell you.]
Teresa was taken aback. She pulled back the curtain and, sure enough, spotted a familiar Maybach parked downstairs at the entrance to the complex.
“Mom,” Michael called out, walking over after his shower, “What are you looking at?”
“It’s nothing,” Teresa replied, closing the curtain and slipping on a coat. “I’m heading out for a bit. I’ll be back soon. If you’re sleepy, go ahead and get some rest.”
Outside, Jonathan leaned against his car, staring at the entrance sign of Rosary Estates, watching the sycamore leaves turni
Since last year, he’d visited so often he’d lost count. He knew this place better than his own home, and even the security guard had become very familiar with him.
Just as he was lost in thought, he spotted a familiar figure walking toward him.
He looked at Teresa, wearing a white knitted cardigan with her hair casually tied up. She looked ethereal and beautiful, like she’d stepped out of a painting. He couldn’t help stealing a few more glances at her.

“It’s so late. If it’s something important, couldn’t you have just called?” Teresa said as she looked up at the tall man, her hands stuffed to he coat pockets, a hint of doubt in her eyes.
Jonathan stayed silent, pulling out a set of keys and quietly handing them to her.
He gently said, “Here are the keys to the place in Luviston Estates, Why don’t you take Michael and move in? With your brother and mem hère, it’s not convenient for you both to share one room.”
“My mom is taking Isabel back to Gorthany soon. They won’t be here for long.” Teresa replied.
Jonathan said, “But what about Lucas? Even if you’re siblings, you’re both adults, so living together isn’t ideal. The Luviston Estates place in empty. Take Michael and move in. It’s my way of making it up to you.”
Teresa blinked in confusion, not quite getting what he meant by mentioning compensation. “What do you mean by that?” she asked.
