Through his binoculars, Jonathan saw Jennifer dangling in mid–air, with Donald and Teresa both struggling to hold onto her. He couldn’t let Teresa face this alone any longer. Then he dashed upstairs to help..
Donald summoned every ounce of his strength, pulling Jennifer back inch by inch. His face turned bright red from the effort.
He said, “Jennifer, do you really want to die? You don’t, do you?”
Jennifer suddenly broke down and started sobbing her heart out. She didn’t say a word. In that moment, her cries shook everyone to the
core.
Teresa was barely holding on. Her sweat was streaming down her face. But she just couldn’t let go. She held onto the wall with one hand and gripped Jennifer’s hand as tightly as she could with the other one, refusing to let go.
All of a sudden, a big hand seized Teresa’s wrist. Jonathan shouted, “Let go and step back!”
Hearing that familiar voice, Teresa shot a glance sideways and saw Jonathan, who had suddenly appeared. Only then did Teresa finally let go.
With the combined strength of Jonathan and Donald, they finally hauled Jennifer back up to safety. Saved at last, Jennifer collapsed onto the ground and broke down completely, sobbing her heart out.
At that moment, Jennifer got her second chance.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry!” She covered her face and cried, unable to hold back her tears. Her cries echoed through the high–rise, ringing out into the night.
At the hospital. When Teresa woke up, it was already the early hours of the morning. She remembered that after Jennifer was saved, her strength gave out, and she passed out. Jonathan had caught her just in time and picked her up in his arms.
That familiar presence lingered by her side. Teresa turned her head and saw Jonathan talking to a doctor.
“Thank you, doctor,” Jonathan said.
After the doctor left, Jonathan turned and saw that Teresa was awake. He walked over and held down her moving wrist. “Don’t move. You’re getting a nutritional IV.”
Teresa glanced at her hand and nodded. She asked, “Where’s Jennifer? She’s fine, right?”
“Donald took her away. She’s not going to do anything foolish again, so you don’t have to worry,” Jonathan replied.
“That’s good,” Teresa said, finally letting out a breath of relief. “Sorry for all the trouble I caused you this time. Really, thank you.”
“How many times are you going to thank me?” Jonathan shot her an exasperated look.
Jonathan said, “The doctor already warned that you need to get plenty of rest these next few days. Don’t go wandering around, or you could lose the baby. You heard that?”
Teresa was momentarily stunned. She didn’t expect to hear that. She lowered her head and placed her hand on her belly.
“I’m going to handle the procedures,” Jonathan stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
Teresa fell silent. Not long after, Jonathan came back. Teresa looked up and studied his tense expression. He paced around the room, but
