Chapter 767
The next second, Jonathan crouched on the floor, both hands on Teresa’s lower back, and pressed his head to her belly.
“I’ve never heard the baby’s heartbeat,” he said. “Let me listen.”
Teresa didn’t answer. From her angle, she could see the straight bridge of his nose. She swallowed, not sure why her pulse kicked, she’d seen his face plenty.
“You done staring? The baby’s trying to sleep,” she said.
Jonathan lifted his head and locked his deep eyes on her. “Why do I hear loud thumps?”
Teresa’s gaze flicked away. “Really? I don’t hear anything.”
Jonathan leaned in toward her chest. They were almost touching. Teresa shoved him back just in time.
“Go to your room and sleep,” she said. “I’m turning in too.”
Then Jonathan’s face came down toward hers.
Teresa caught the scent of his shower gel. She looked aside. “We can’t do that stuff anymore. I’m pregnant.”
Jonathan brushed her cheek with his long fingers. “Just fixing the lotion you missed. What were you thinking?”
Teresa flushed. “I’ve got it.”
She reached up and accidentally grabbed his fingers.
Jonathan’s eyes snapped to hers. She tried to pull away, but he held on.
They were inches apart. The next moment, he kissed her.
The soft smack echoed in the room. Teresa felt his hand slide up her pajamas to her chest, jolted awake, and pushed him off just before he tipped her back.
“Talking about the past got me carried away. Sorry,” Jonathan muttered, straightening his shirt. He walked out of Teresa’s room.
Watching his back disappear, Teresa felt her heart still racing. She was glad she’d stopped herself.
The next afternoon, Jennifer showed up at the Lynn residence without warning. Werner opened the door.
“Donald, Jennifer’s here to see you.” Werner looked into the house.
Donald hadn’t expected her to come. He planned to step outside and talk with her.
Jennifer carried a food box and said in a pleasing way, “I made a few dishes you like. You can eat them with your dad.”
Donald turned his face away. “Don’t come again. I still haven’t told my dad and the others about our divorce. Wait till we finish the paperwork.”
Jennifer felt another stab in her chest. “Why? Are you afraid they’ll talk you out of it?”

Chapter 767
30 Aug
Since the was little, she had always been alone, without a single friend. Later, Gary treated her well, and then she became Teresa’s sister and
married Donald.
She thought she finally had a family.
Scenes from the past flashed in her mind–Gary’s harsh words, Teresa’s disappointment, and Donald’s accusations.
Everyone around her was leaving. Once again, she was alone, unloved,
She even felt like being alive was a mistake.
Then, a loud honk sounded behind her. Jennifer snapped out of it and saw a motorcycle speeding toward her. But her body felt frozen. She
couldn’t move.
The next second, she heard a familiar voice shout, “Hannah!”
Then Jennifer fell hard and felt sharp pain. Her arm scraped against the ground.
Holding her aching arm, Jennifer looked up and saw Evelyn standing in front of her.
“How did you-” She froze for a moment, then noticed the blood running from Evelyn’s knee, worse than her own injury.
Evelyn struggled to stand. “Teresa called me. She said there’s news about my cousin. I was on my way to find her and saw you wandering into the street like that. What were you thinking? Didn’t you see the light was red?”
Jennifer helped support Evelyn and frowned. “I didn’t ask you to save me.”
For a moment, she had truly wanted to die. Life felt meaningless.
But she never expected Evelyn–one of the people she hated most–to be the one to save her at the last second.
Jennifer couldn’t understand why Evelyn, who wasn’t even her real mother, would save her.
