Peggy’s face twisted with rage as she finally lowered her hand. “Whatever, I’m not agreeing with this. If you don’t give up on your stupid celebrity dream, I’ll move in right here. Wherever you go, I’ll go. I’ll stick around and make your life hell.”
Lucas grabbed his ID and wallet from the table. “Suit yourself. Stay here If you want.” With that, he walked out the door.
“Get back here!” Peggy shrieked as she saw Lucas really leaving. In a fit of fury, she snatched a glass from the table and hurled it at the door. The glass shattered with pieces flying everywhere.
Teresa left the office after work in Nareigh. She hadn’t had a single moment’s peace all day.
Jonathan and Michael kept checking in from Jarisburg, texting her every half hour or calling every hour to ask where she was and what she was up to. She had no choice but to reply every time.
She was planning to just grab something simple for dinner, but then Jonathan called. He’d already had the babysitter go over to Rosary Estates to make dinner and insisted she come home to eat instead of grabbing food outside.
With no other option, Teresa had to drive back.
When Teresa got to the entrance of her office building, she saw a familiar Mercedes car parked there and frowned.
As she walked closer, Jennifer stepped out of the car, carrying a bag of beer. She’d already polished off a few beer cans before Teresa even got home.
“What are you doing here?” Teresa asked, catching the strong smell of alcohol on Jennifer.
Jennifer gave a bitter little laugh. “I’m basically jobless now, and even Donald wants to divorce me.”
Teresa was stunned at the news.
Jennifer said, “We went to the courthouse and filed for divorce today. Now we have to wait out a thirty–day cooling–off period.”
Teresa asked, “So it’s because you faked a pregnancy and lied to him? He found out and got really angry, and that’s why he wants a divorce, right?”
Jennifer didn’t deny it. She gave a small nod. “Yeah, that was the main reason.”
Teresa let out a cold laugh. “You were the one who chose to use a baby as a lie, turning it into your bargaining chip.
“I told you before, you should’ve just told the truth sooner. But now, look at you. All I can say is that you did this to yourself.”
Jennifer looked up, a little irritated. “I didn’t come here just to get scolded by you.”
All she wanted was a bit of comfort and some warmth from family. Even though she and Teresa weren’t real sisters anymore, in her heart,
Jennifer still saw Teresa as her sister.
Teresa shook her head. “I can’t comfort you. Back when I was the one in trouble, all you ever did was lecture me and blame me for everything.”
Jennifer was left speechless. After a moment, She rubbed her forehead. “Am I really that bad? I just… I really thought I was protecting my family, at least from my own perspective.”

“Did you ever even think about how Donald feels?” Teresa pressed. “You’re his wife. You share a bed with him every single night, but you completely shattered his heart. That’s why he wants a divorce.”
Jennifer went silent, her eyes filling with tears once more.
Teresa honestly didn’t know what to say. She was genuinely surprised because she never thought Donald would actually divorce Jennifer. “If you really want to fix things, then use this thirty–day cooling–off period and do your best to win him back.”
“I told him I’d change, but he just won’t listen to me anymore,” Jennifer murmured.
Teresa said, “You keep saying you’ll change, but have you actually done anything about it? Deep down, you still don’t really think you did anything wrong, do you?
“You always think you’re right. You control everything, guilt–trip people, and bite the hand that feeds you, twisting others‘ kindness into something wrong. You never admit when you’re wrong. Maybe, when you finally see you’re wrong, then you can try to win him back.”
If someone didn’t truly regret what they had done but just put on an act, it was pointless, and it wouldn’t change a thing.
Jennifer looked at Teresa, her eyes full of desperation. “If I truly regret what I did, will he really not divorce me? I really love Donald. If I lose him, I don’t even want to live anymore.”
