Chapter 752
Seeing Gary, Jennifer forced a bitter smile and said, “What are you doing here?”
Gary gazed down at her and said, “Don’t worry. I’m not here to laugh at you. You can just think of me as someone who happened to be passing by.”
Jennifer didn’t say anything, and she just sniffled.
Gary tried to help her get up, but Jennifer refused. Right now, she just wanted to be alone for a while. After all, they were classmates once. She didn’t want an old classmate to see her looking so pathetic.
Gary looked at Jennifer’s tear–streaked face and said with a meaningful look, “If only you had gone with my plan from the very beginning.”
Back when things were still icy between Jonathan and Donald, and he was being detained for reporting Jonathan’s father, he had clearly suggested that Jennifer pin the blame on him and use it as a chance to redeem herself.
But she refused, stubbornly insisting on taking her own path.
Jennifer gave a bitter smile. “This is what I deserve. I own up to it.”

Gary sighed. “Then start over. Like I told you before, even at thirty, you can still begin again. It’s never too late.” With that, he pulled a set of car keys from his pocket, placed them beside her, and turned to leave.
Jennifer stared at the familiar car keys, her whole body going rigid. “Wait!”
‘I clearly sold this car to a used car dealership. How did it end up with Gary?‘ she thought, stunned.
Gary turned around with his hands in his pockets. “I saw you selling your car and figured you must be in trouble. Don’t blame me for meddling. I called Teresa, and that was when I found out you’re not really her sister after all.”
Jennifer took a deep breath, looking down at the car keys with a bitter smile. “Go ahead, all of you. Laugh at me. That’s right. I’m a complete failure now. Happy now? Is this what you wanted?”
Gary shook his head. “That’s not what I meant, Jennifer. Just start over. It’s not the end of the world. Compared to what I’ve been through, you’re nowhere near rock bottom.”
“You haven’t been through what I’ve been through. How could you possibly understand how I feel?” Jennifer asked.
Gary let out a short laugh. “You think I don’t get it? For years, I truly believed Yorick was my father. Then, all of a sudden, I was told my real dad was someone else. Trust me. I know exactly what that feels like.”
He exhaled slowly. “Maybe I haven’t lived through everything you have, but I know how much it hurts right now.”
It was like when he found out the uncle he’d always resented, Werner, turned out to be his real dad.
“Jennifer, just swallow your pride. Don’t worry so much about saving face. Give yourself a fresh start,” Gary said gently.
Jennifer’s tears slid down her cheeks again. She had no idea how much time had passed, but when she finally came back to herself, Gary was already gone. Gripping the car keys, she stood up.
She went to Vincent’s office. This time, she offered to step down. Her face was ashen with despair as she said, “Mr. Foster, I know I don’t deserve to be considered for department head anymore, and I don’t have the right to stay here, either.”

She handed over her medical license. “I’m returning everything that was never truly mine.” She took a shaky breath. “Honestly, I wasn’t even old enough for the promotion. You only promoted me ahead of time because of my sister’s ex–husband.”
‘If only I’d just taken it slow and worked my way up, maybe I wouldn’t have lost everything,‘ she thought with regret.
