Chapter 639
“Our child?” Jonathan suddenly understood what she meant. His gaze darkened with complex emotions. “Hey, it’s okay. I was never mad that you were. on contraceptive pills before. We’ll have our child… in due time.”
“No, that’s not it. I…” Tefesa started to say, but her phone rang, interrupting her struggle to get the words out. She frowned at the name on the screen and immediately hit ignore.
“That was Jennifer, right?” Jonathan asked. “Why didn’t you pick up?”
“It’s not important,” Teresa said. “I just don’t want to talk to her right now.”
She looked back at him, clenching her fists in her lap. “The truth is, I…”
Her phone rang. It was Jennifer. And again, Teresa declined the call.
“You should probably get that,” Jonathan said gently. “What if it’s something important?”
Teresa shook her head. “I know exactly why she’s calling. She must have seen the fireworks. She doesn’t want me to get back with you and repeat the same mistakes.”
The words had barely left her mouth when another phone started ringing. This time, it was Jonathan’s.
He answered, his brow furrowing tighter and tighter as
e listened. “Got it,” he said sharply, then hung up.
The look on his face made her stomach clench. “Jonathan, what is it?”
“My grandpa had a stroke. He’s at the hospital,” Jonathan said.
“Oh my god,” Teresa breathed. “How?”
“Hey, it’s okay. They got to him fast. The doctors say he’s stable for now,” Jonathan said, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
‘A stroke?‘ Teresa thought to herself. ‘But Hayden’s always been so healthy. And why now, right when I was about to tell Jonathan everything?
Jonathan’s phone buzzed again. It was Irene this time, telling him to, get to the hospital ASAP.
Teresa snapped out of her thoughts and said gently, “You should go to the hospital. I’ll just grab a cab home.”
“I’m driving you home,” Jonathan insisted. “It’ll be just a short detour.”
Teresa didn’t fight him on it. Beautiful moments were just like fireworks–dazzling and magical for a heartbeat, then gone. And then they went back to
real life.
The rest of the drive was silent. As they pulled up to her place in Rosary Estates, Teresa unbuckled her seatbelt. “Thank you for the ride. Now go, get to the hospital.”
She went to get out, but Jonathan grabbed her hand, Looking into those intense eyes of his, she knew exactly what he w about it,” she said. “The remarriage thing.”
“Yeah, think about it.” Jonathan let her hand slip away slowly, his eyes following her until she was out of sight.

When Jonathan arrived at the hospital, Hayden was already awake. Werner was a mess on the floor, sobbing his eyes out. Hayden looked at Werner with nothing but disappointment in his eyes.
“Jonathan, you’re finally here,” Irene said as she hurried over.

Jonathan frowned, stepping closer to the bed. “Grandpa.”
Hayden snorted angrily, “So, you all decided to keep me in the dark. Let me be the last fool to find out.”
“About what, Grandpa?” Jonathan asked.
“That Werner and Cathy are divorced.” Hayden’s voice trembled with rage. “And that Gary isn’t
t Yorick’s son. He belongs to Werner, God!
“Dad, please, just calm down. Don’t get yourself worked up-” Werner pleaded, but Hayden shut him up with one glare.
“Shut up. If I die today, you can be damn sure it’s because you stressed me to death.” With that, Hayden broke into another fit of violent coughing
Jonathan’s frown deepened. He thought, ‘Who told Grandpa about Gary’s real father and Werner’s divorce? Werner never would’ve confessed, Cathy’s in Soronfield, so it wasn’t her. And Donald doesn’t have a big mouth…
“Grandpa, take it easy. Who told you all this?” Jonathan asked.
