Irene glared at Liora, unable to stand her tone, and retorted, “Are you threatening me? Go ahead, sue me then. The doctors all confirmed back then that Yorick’s liver cancer had nothing to do with me.
“If he hadn’t drunk that poison for you, do you think you’d even be alive right now?”
Liora smiled gently. The next moment, she suddenly pulled out her phone and said, “I recorded everything.”
Irene’s face instantly paled. She lunged to snatch the phone, barking, “Delete that right now.”
“If you’re not scared, then what exactly are you afraid of?” Liora said coolly, locking her phone screen as she spoke. She let Irene snatch it, but when Irene couldn’t unlock it, Liora just smiled and calmly took her phone back.
Liora said coolly, “It’s passcode–locked, but you can’t even open it, so what’s the point? Do you think deleting the recording would make the truth disappear?”
Liora leaned in close to Irene’s ear and whispered, “I’d rather not dredge up the past, but I have only one demand: leave my son alone.”
Irene glared at Liora and said, “I hope you rot in hell.” In the end, she could only watch helplessly as Liora, coughing violently and leaning against the wall for support, slowly walked away.
Furious, Irene grabbed a pillow off the bed and hurled it at Liora’s retreating figure.
When she was left alone in the room, Irene looked at her still–trembling hands, Liora’s threatening words echoing in her ears. Suddenly, memories came flooding back.
She remembered she wasn’t always like this. When she married Yorick, she was gentle and kind. When she was pregnant with Jonathan, before Liora ever came into the picture, everyone praised her as a good wife.
Unlike others, she never had morning sickness. She used to tell people her baby was heaven–sent, certain he would be a well–behaved child. Yorick doted on her back then. That was the happiest year of her life.
She thought her happiness would last forever, but then Liora appeared, and everything changed. And that’s when her personality utterly transformed.
Jonathan visited Irene at the hospital. Seeing that she was fine, he said bluntly, “You should get discharged. No need to stay here any longer. I’ve booked you a flight back to Nareigh for tonight. You can go back now.”
Irene asked tentatively, “I heard that Liora’s son, Sanford, got detained.”
Jonathan glanced at his watch and said coolly, “He’s been detained for almost three days now,”
Irene asked, “Are you going to sue him? Make him suffer in prison for a year or two just to teach him a lesson?”
Jonathan shot back, “And why shouldn’t I?”
Irene fell silent. Her expression was a tangled knot of suppressed pain and sorrow. Under Jonathan’s piercing gaze, she said, “Jonat! don’t press charges.
“Detain him for a few days. That should be enough. I’m sure he won’t dare do it again.”
Jonathan asked, “Why?”

Avoiding eye contact, Irene said, “It was your grandfather who pressured me. Hayden said Sanford is your father’s bloodline, part of the Lynn family. He doesn’t want to see you two turn on each other.”
Jonathan’s gaze turned steely. He said, “I’ll handle Grandpa. Don’t worry about it.”

Irene sighed and said, “But your grandpa is such a stubborn old man. You should just drop this whole thing with Sanford. He’s already been detained, and everyone knows he was just slandering. It won’t affect us at all. Let’s just leave it at that.”
Jonathan sat on the edge of Irene’s bed, fixing her with a hard stare. He asked, “Are you being this kind to the other woman’s child? Besides, Liora got pregnant behind my father’s back. Don’t you hate her?”
