Jennifer had never forgotten how Gordon had ruined the wedding, turning her into a joke in front of everyone. It had cut deep, a wound that never quite heated, and she’d been waiting for the perfect moment to strike back. Now, finally, that moment was here.
Trene clutched her chest, acting like she was the one being wronged and embarrassed.
Heidi tried to comfort Irene, and then turned to Jennifer and scolded, “Look at how upset you’ve made her. Do you have any respect for your elders at all? Didn’t your mother teach you any manners?”
Irene grumbled to Heidi, “She didn’t even have a mother to teach her. She was just picked up and raised by a teacher.”
Heidi clicked her tongue. “Now I’m really curious what kind of person would even bother to take you in.”
The sharp tap of a cane echoed through the room. And a deep, commanding voice suddenly rang out. “Want to see me, Heidi?”
Everyone turned to look. Jonathan was helping an old lady walk in, with Gordon right beside them. The old lady’s grey hair was perfectly styled, her wrinkled face full of dignity, and her eyes sharp and full of life.
Irene hurried over to Jonathan. “Where have you been? You said you were helping your grandpa look for someone. And who’s this?”
Before Jonathan could say anything, Jennifer strode over, her eyes a little panicked. “Ms. Nelson, what are you doing here?”
Heidi jumped in. “So you’re the teacher who took her in? I have to ask, what kind of manners did you teach her? She’s got no respect for my sister at all!”
Fiona shot Heidi a glance and then looked at Gordon with disappointment. “Just look at how you’ve raised your kids.”
Gordon clung tightly to Fiona’s arm, shaking his head in grievance. “I don’t even know her, Fiona.”
At the mention of “Fiona,” Irene and Heidi froze, exchanging stunned looks.
Jonathan finally spoke up, “She’s the real Fiona, my real grandma.”
On the way here, Jonathan had already learned a bit about his grandmother. He’d even shown her photos of her two daughters. Out of everyone here, only Teresa was new to her–Genevieve had seen the rest.
Genevieve stepped up to the bedside and gazed at the elderly woman lying there. She sighed softly and gently squeezed the woman’s hand.
The old woman’s eyes fluttered, her pulse quickened, and she coughed a few times. Then, as if feeling a familiar touch, she slowly opened her
Genevieve patted her shoulder. “It’s been decades, Genevieve.”
Everyone was stunned all over again.
Heidi spoke up, “Jonathan, what on earth is going on? Who’s actually your grandmother? I’m so confused.”
Jonathan followed Gordon’s gaze and said, “Grandpa would never mistake his own love. Ms. Nelson here is my real grandmother.”

“How is that possible? Are there really two people named Fiona?” Heidi was completely baffled, unable to make sense of it. Irene was just as confused-
so who was the real Fiona?
Jonathan pulled a DNA test report from his pocket and handed it over. Teresa, standing by the window, could see clearly—it was the same report he’d

Trene stared at the results in shock. “When did you even do this test? How come I never knew about it?”
“I did it a long time ago,” Jonathan replied.
Irene muttered, “So the old lady in the bed isn’t your real grother? Then why is she called Fiona, and why does she look so much like Fiona did when she was young?”
“Let me explain,” said “Genevieve“, her voice calm and steady.
With all the family gathered here, she began to tell everyone what had really happened all those

a few days, Gordon wanted to marry her.
Fiona was so in love that all she could think about was being a good wife and raising a family. She’d completely forgotten about dealing with Genevieve. When she found out she was pregnant and it might be twins, Fiona and Gordon were overjoyed.
Just as the two of them were enjoying their little world together, trouble showed
- up.
Gordon had a childhood friend who’d secretly liked him for years. When she found out Fiona was pregnant with twins, jealousy got the best of her. She forged letters to make it look like Fiona was having an affair with an old classmate.
Gordon had always trusted this friend, so he believed every word she said. When he
saw those fake letters–full of flirty and suggestive lines–he lost it.
Blinded by jealousy, he refused to listen to Fiona’s side of the story, decided she was cheating on him, even started doubting if the babies were his, and forced Fiona to get an abortion.
Fiona refused to give up her babies and kept insisting she hadn’t cheated, but Gordon still didn’t believe her. From that day on, he walked out without looking back and never came home again.
Fiona gave birth all alone. The twins were a tough delivery, and she passed out from exhaustion. When she finally woke up, the midwife told her, heartbroken, that both babies hadn’t made it.
As she recalled all this, Fiona shot a cold look at Gordon, who now just sat there, old and senile, staring blankly. “He might have forgotten everything, but I haven’t. And I’ll never forgive the pain and despair he put me through.”
But then she turned to Jonathan, her eyes softening with warmth and relief. “Jonathan told me I needed to clear the air. He’s right–I can’t let my past cause misunderstandings for the younger generation.”
The old woman lying in the bed finally opened her eyes and stared at Fiona. In that moment, the truth about who they really were became clear.
The real Fiona looked down at her cousin, eyes full of tears. A mocking smile appeared on Fiona’s lips. “You had your uterus removed. How could you possibly have children?”
The old woman in the bed closed her eyes, and a string of tears suddenly rolled down her face.
Fiona’s head of silver hair seemed to shine even brighter as she looked back on everything. “It’s all karma,” she said quietly. “This is the retribution we all
have to bear.”
Her thoughts drifted off again.
