After winter break, I noticed that Sarah had

changed. She was often zoning out, her

energy gone. She was like a dying old woman,

no longer holding on to hope.

I didn’t know what happened, but she refused

to talk to me. She’d shut me out.

Then she went on a two-week absence.

Whenever I had time, I would walk by her

house. Would she go out? Would I see her? I

wasn’t sure. I didn’t even know what I was

waiting for.

What if, she just didn’t want to see me?

As I was standing there hesitating, I felt her

watching me. I looked up, not seeing her. But

I did see a shirtless young man watching me,

full of disdain. When he noticed I was staring

at him, he closed the curtains.

That was Sarah’s bedroom, wasn’t it?
