Sarah died, one rainy night.
No one else could understand her pain, or
comfort her.
I looked through her diary, watched those
family members put on their fake sadness,
and realized how hard she had tried.
Don’t worry, I will be with you, I’ll deal with
them for you.
I bought pesticide, porridge, and buns.
When I got to the house, they were chatting
in the living room.
How laughable, that they had been filled with
remorse last night and were planning their
next chapter.
I didn’t hesitate to turn on the signal jammer

and mix the pesticide into the porridge. I
watched them eat it without suspicion. I
watched the pain on their faces, and I knew it
wasn’t enough. Sarah had been through so
much more.
As I felt myself slipping away, I saw Sarah.
She was wearing a floral dress, about to
leave. I called out to her, and she turned,
smiling at me, like the afternoon sun, with a
tiny dimple on her cheek.
I stood up, took her hand, and walked with
her toward the light.
This time, I wouldn’t let go so easily.
