“Say that again?” I ask confused, I’m not participating, and if it’s.. mandatory, then I’ll be hiding the whole time, I refuse to join this kind of game.
“It’s a war, but it’s a game, no one is going to get hurt,” Oscar says.
“Not always, sometimes they do get hurt,” Oliver says.
During the last month, we have became good friends, the twins are nice, and since they’re here, Rosie get to visit us sometimes to visit her siblings which means we get to spend time along with her. Their semester is almost over for them and it’s time for them to do the summer celebration, they do it once in summer and once in winter.
“But we get to sit out,” Nutmeg says, sounding just as worried, the girl who’s ready to run head first into any kind of trouble is holding back, this means something! A big thing!
“Of course, no one expects the mates to participate, especially ones who just joined,” Oscar assures us again.
“But Uncle Damian gonna be there,” I say thinking of my poor mate, what if they hurt him, or what if he got a busted lip, how is he supposed to kiss me?
“I can’t believe you still calling him Uncle Damian, girl, we saw you making out,” Oliver tease me.
“Yes, and so?” I say with a shrug.

“So, it’s not nice to call him Uncle,” Oscar says, between the two of them, I found out they like acting good cop, bad cop. Oscar is the nicer one while Oliver is the more blunt one who’d tell you you’re wrong to your damn face.
“Leave them, they have the weirdest relation ever, I swear, but at least my girl is happy,” Nutmeg says meaning me and my crazy relation with my uncle, who’s also my mate, but he’s my step uncle, nothing too weird around here.
“So you two get it now?” Oscar asks us.
“Kind of, can you explain it again?” I say still trying to wrap my head around it.
“Once a summer and once a winter, in the two opposite weathers, we have a friendly war between two teams, it’s made of different packs, some would become allies and other enemies, and then the job is to attack the second pack, take over their territory by planting a flag and then the game is over,” Oscar explains.
“How long does the war take?” Nutmeg asks.
“Until midnight, but it can end before,” Oliver answers her.
“What would we do the whole day?” I ask groaning, I don’t wanna be sitting on my hands the whole day waiting for the war to end and to know who had won.
“You can be part of it,” Oscar says.
“It’s not can, but will, most mates are expected to participate but can say no if they want to, you’re not supposed to fight, you’re there to make others fight for you and keep you safe,” Oliver says.
“I see, you wanna go in?” I ask Nutmeg.

“Well yeah, it’s gonna be a lot more fun to be than being on the
outside,” Nutmeg says and I agreed with her, it sounds a lot better than just being on the side,
“Whose team are you going to be?” I ask the twins.
“The Snow pack of course, we’re gonna be allies with yours and a couple more, so we’ll all be on the same side,” he says inaking us smile, we got the twins on our side, we’re going to be safe and we’re going to win.
“Noice, so when does it happen again?” Nutmeg asks.
“You two, I swear all of this was explained in your introduction class, didn’t you pay any attention to it?“. Oliver scolds us.
“It’s in two days,” Oscar adds.
“We were there for sure,” I start.
“Yup, I could swear I have done my nails under the table, they looked perfect,” Nutmeg says with a big smile on her face.
“Does Mariano knows you don’t pay attention,” Oliver asks her in a firm voice.
“I have learned all of those back in highschool, I’ve been taking wolf classes since kindergarten since mom wanted me to be a wolf,” he say.
“What’s your excuse?” they ask me next pointing at me.
