I ran on the side of my sister and beta, the faster I ran the more free I felt, it felt like the sadness was going through my body as I moved it, as I pushed myself forward and kept on running, I have held myself back for years, I didn’t shift, I didn’t run and now I’m going to do it and make it up for all of the lost years.
Everyone was happy that I didn’t go insane or try to hurt anyone, I didn’t attack anyone either, which was a great sign, I wasn’t going feral, instead I just wanted to run and run some more until the pain left my body.
The ones who were running along with me were starting to get tired, they stopped, I passed by the patrol and decided to run along with them, I joined them in their run, but then my sister gave me, she was having hard time breathing, she gave me a wolf eye roll and stopped, walking slowly toward my parent’s home so she can go check on her kids and sleep.
Only I and beta Emmalynn kept on running along with them, they looked at us confused at first but then they kept on doing their job, running the perimeter of the pack land to check for any danger, they ran until the sunrise as I did, but in the end, Emmalynn had to hold me back, their shift was over and others would be taking their place, but I wasn’t allowed to join them, instead, I was dragged off along with her so we could rest and sleep for a bit.

I woke up to youngster sound, I haven’t seen a child or talked to one in a while, so it was weird seeing a child or hearing one so near to me.
“Do we wake him up?” a small child says.
“Nu–uh, mommy says he sad, and sad people like to sleep,” another child answer him.
“But I wanna see him, maybe if you hug him,” the first child says pointing to his sister.
“Why don’t you both come here and hug your favourite uncle?” I offer them, it’s Anna’s kids, they are two small copies of my sister, her mate’s genes didn’t pass through.
“Unlce Damian is here?” The little girl, Sarah says happily.
“Nu stoopid, he means him,” her older brother Kevin junior, who just goes as junior for now, corrects her.
“Be nice to me or I’ll tell grandma,” she says, pulling my mother’s card, which must hurt.
“She got you on that one.” I say to Kevin.
“I know but grandpa said we gotta be nice cause they girls,” he says with a sigh, that’s something that my dad would teach him, to be a gentleman.
“Am I getting my hugs or not?” I ask them and they both ran into my arms, I don’t remember them being this old, the last time I saw them, Sarah was still in diaper and Kevin was learning to talk and walk.

“I’m fine, I missed you two,” I say hugging them back, wishing that I could’ve gotten one just like them from Victoria.
“How could you miss us if you don’t know us?” Junior asks.
“I know you, we talked on the phone before,” I remind them, we had many phone calls before.
“But you didn’t see us,” Sarah objects.
“How old are you and why are you arguing with me,” I say with a raised brow.
“I’m five now! I’m a very big girl,” she says proud of herself, I sighed and smiled at her, a forced smile, who knows four years later and I’m able to smile again.
“I almost seven,” junior says happily.
“You’ve grown up so much,” I say with the same smile, trying to force it to get bigger, but that’s the best I could push it.
“Thank you,” they both say at the same time.
“There you are,” Kevin, my sister’s mate says coming into my room looking for his kids.
“Ahhh…me not here,” Anna yells and then hides under my blanket, maybe five isn’t that big after all.
