Chapter 5
Cara’s POV
“Cara! You get back-”
I didn’t wait for Arthur to finish. I ended the call with a resolute tap and dropped my phone onto the couch with more force than necessary.
Across the room in her city–view apartment, my best friend Cathy exploded into laughter,
doubling over and nearly spilling the mimosa she had been nursing all morning.
“HAHAHA! That was epic! You totally roasted him! Alpha Arthur probably just blew a
gasket–bet his fancy wolf tail is standing on end like a bottlebrush!”
I couldn’t help but crack a tired smile. “He probably broke something expensive. Again.”
“You should’ve seen your face–so cool, so done! I love it. Finally, you’re waking up, babe.”
She twirled dramatically in her silk robe, like a proud stage mom. “He deserved that and
more.”
I sighed, sinking deeper into her plush lavender couch, my fingers twisting in the soft knit
throw. “Three years ago, Lucy ran off to the human world the minute Arthur fell into a
coma. Not a word. And now? He wakes up and suddenly she’s back, purring and clinging to him like nothing happened.”
Cathy rolled her eyes and flopped beside me. “Oh please. Don’t even get me started on Lucy.
I heard she tried seducing some human billionaire while she was abroad. He wasn’t
interested–guess even billionaires can spot a gold digger from a mile away.”
I let out a soft chuckle, but it quickly faded. “And Arthur… he didn’t even hesitate. The moment he opened his eyes, he asked for her. Not me. Not the person who sat beside him every single day for three years, who fed him, bathed him, talked to him even when he
couldn’t answer.”
“He’s an idiot,” Cathy said flatly, her hand tightening around mine. “A beautiful, emotionally stunted idiot.”

“He’s her mate,” I said softly. “She’s in his blood. No matter what I do, that bond will always pull him back to her.”
Cathy scowled. “Yeah, well, screw fate.”
I gave a bitter smile. “He never loved me. Not really. I was just… convenient. The loyal, selfless little fool who stayed behind.”
“But you two had history,” she said, her voice rising. “He looked for you when you were
kids. You even-”
“He forgot.” My voice cracked, and I forced myself to swallow it down. “I don’t think I ever existed in his heart. It was always Lucy. I was just a placeholder.”
Silence hung heavy in the room for a moment.
“Enough of this,” Cathy suddenly declared, standing up with dramatic flair and yanking me to my feet, “Cara, the goddess doesn’t take without giving back. She closed one window? So what? She’s throwing open a gilded double door. And tonight, you are walking through it in heels and glitter!”
I blinked. “What are you talking about-?”
“I’m throwing you a single–ladies‘ blowout party. And not just any party–eight male strippers, themed cocktails, glow–in–the–dark body paint-”
I groaned, laughing despite myself as I rubbed my temples. “Please tell me you’re joking.”
“Do I look like I’m joking?” Cathy grinned, then leaned in and plucked the black–rimmed glasses from my nose before I could stop her. She turned and–with shocking speed–tossed
them into the trash can near the kitchen.
“My glasses!” I cried, taking a step toward the bin.
“Nope,” she said, holding out a hand like a traffic officer. “You’ve had those things since freshman year. You hide behind them. Time to stop. It’s a new era.”
“But I need them to seé.”

Chapter S
“You need to be seen. You’re stunning, Cara. You’ve just been stuck playing the wrong role–frumpy academic when you could be leading–lady knockout. Think Lucy, but smarter and actually kind. No more black clothes either. You’re single now. Time to glow.”
Her words stirred something in me–something raw and long buried. My parents used to call Lucy the swan, and me the ugly duckling. I had laughed it off, but the label stuck. Maybe even Arthur saw me that way: small, quiet, plain.
Cathy tugged me toward the door with new fire in her eyes. “We’re going shopping. Hair, nails, clothes–spa day, full transformation. I want Arthur and every other wolf in this city to see what he let go.”
She paused as we reached the threshold. “Wait–Cara. About the divorce… you’re really not taking any of Arthur’s money?”
I hesitated. “I don’t want anything from him.”
“But he gave you that card, right?”
Arthur had always been extravagant when it came to gifts. During one of his more lucid
moments, he’d handed me a black card embossed in gold foil and told me to “get something
nice.” I never used it. Never even touched it.
I pulled it out of my purse and stared at it for a second. Then I smiled, a little wickedly. “Well, today? He can pay for my revenge glow–up.”
Third–Person POV
Night fell.
The Moonlit Forest Bar came alive under a canopy of starlight and artificial moonbeams. Hidden deep within the werewolf territories, it was the most exclusive den of indulgence in the packs‘ world. Each booth was velvet and shadow, every glass filled with liquid starlight.
The music throbbed like a heartbeat–wild and relentless,
In the most coveted private booth, Arthur sat at the center, his presence radiating command. He wore a black button–down shirt, sleeves casually rolled to his elbows, revealing tanned forearms marked by years of training and a diamond–studded watch worth more than a city. Every inch of him screamed alpha–magnetic, cold, beautiful.

Chapter 5
Female wolves in the crowd couldn’t stop glancing toward him, whispering behind perfectly
manicured claws.
Beside him, Andy–Alpha of Blizzard Pack–leaned back with a drink in hand, laughing like he didn’t have a care in the world. The other seats were filled by Alphas, beta nobles, and a few royal heirs, all soaking in the luxury like they’d been born into it. Because they had.
“Wait, wait–hold up,” Andy said, his voice rising over the music. “You’re telling me Cara wants a divorce?”
Arthur didn’t reply.
Andy’s laugh boomed. “You’re kidding! Everyone knows that girl’s obsessed with you. She was practically your shadow for three years. You were in a coma and she still married you.”
Another alpha snorted. “Bet she can’t go a day without checking your messages. What’s the over–under? Two days before she begs to come back?”
“I’m betting she doesn’t even last tonight,” one of the princes said, tossing back a shot. “Ten minutes from now she’ll be sending you weepy texts.”
Arthur’s jaw was tight, his drink untouched. His eyes glinted, unreadable.
He took out his phone and opened Cara’s chat.
Last night’s message greeted him: a picture of calcium supplements, a reminder to take them, a gentle wish for him to come home early.
Every message above it–hers.
Every single one.
He had never replied.
Not once.
Tonight, the chat was empty.

His chest ached in a way he didn’t understand.
Ding.
A message.
Andy whooped. “Told you! She cracked!”
Ding. Ding. Ding.
Several more followed, each rapid chime like a drumbeat of victory for the surrounding wolves.
They cackled. “Knew it. She’s desperate. Come on, open it–let’s see her grovel.”
Arthur didn’t move at first.
But then… he tapped the screen.
And froze.
Author’s Words: let’s guess what Arthur saw? It couldn’t be a video of Cara getting intimate with 8 male strippers, could it? Get to the next chapter and find out what happens!
