Chapter 3
Arthur had already set one foot on the stairs when he suddenly stopped mid–step. The silence in the hallway was deafening.
Slowly, he turned around, and his deep, ocean–blue eyes locked onto me with an unreadable intensity, like a tide rolling in–silent, heavy, inevitable.
I met his gaze, refusing to back down. I straightened my spine, even though my heart was pounding wildly in my chest. My voice was soft but resolute as I repeated the words that had been buried inside me for far too long.
“Let’s get a divorce, Arthur. Do you like this birthday gift?”

For a moment, Arthur didn’t move. The elegant lines of his face remained completely still,
carved from cold marble.
He finally spoke, his tone calm but sharp, like a knife hidden in silk. “You want a divorce
just because I missed my birthday celebration?”
“Lucy’s back… isn’t she?” I asked, voice trembling at the edges despite myself.
At her name, a mocking smile tugged at the corner of his lips, and he let out a faint,
dismissive laugh that sent a chill down my spine.
With long, confident strides, Arthur crossed the hallway toward me. His presence was overwhelming–an alpha of the highest rank, born into power, honed by privilege.
Authority clung to him like a second skin.
“You’re jealous of Lucy?” He asked, voice low and silky.
My pulse raced. As he neared, my feet moved back on instinct. Each step he took forward, I
retreated, until my back hit the cold surface of the wall behind me.
My breath caught.

Chapter 3
In an instant, Arthur was in front of me, his body heat radiating through the air. He braced one hand against the wall beside my head, caging me between the unyielding barrier of his chest and the stone behind me.
I could feel the force of his restrained dominance, the feral edge of the wolf inside him simmering beneath the surface.
He looked down at me from under dark lashes, his voice dipping into a mocking lilt. “Everyone in the pack knew Lucy was supposed to be my Luna. When you schemed your way into replacing her, don’t tell me you didn’t know. You didn’t care back then–so what’s with the sudden self–righteousness now?”
His words hit me like a punch to the gut.
I froze, my lips parting, but no sound came out.
He was right.
He was always supposed to marry Lucy.
I had only ended up in this position because he had fallen into a coma days before the ceremony, and the elders insisted the bond ceremony proceed without delay–for political stability, they said.
And me? I was the closest available female of proper rank.
They placed the Luna’s mark on me in his sleep.
I still remember the day he woke up and saw me standing at his bedside. There was no confusion, no curiosity–just pure, icy disappointment.
Since then, we have slept in separate rooms. He had never so much as grazed my skin with his fingertips. He never touched me, never looked at me with warmth.
Because his heart had always belonged to Lucy.
And yet… I stayed.

Chapter 3
Why?
Because some foolish part of me believed–hoped–that he might one day remember.
I stared up at him, seeing not just the aloof alpha, but the shadow of the little boy from my childhood. The brave young wolf who once shielded me from a snarling rogue, who had given me his jacket when I’d shivered in the snow.
“Arthur…” I whispered, my voice shaking, “Let’s end this sexless marriage.”
His brows lifted, surprise flickering briefly across his perfect features. His voice, smooth and dangerously low, curled around the word like it was a challenge. “Sexless?”
He reached out, his fingers tilting my chin up. His thumb pressed against my lips, tracing the softness with deliberate slowness.
“So desperate to sleep with me, Cara?” He murmured, the ghost of a smirk playing on his
lips.
My cheeks exploded with heat. “That’s not what I-!”
But the words died in my throat. His thumb still rested against my lips, calloused skin
brushing over the sensitive curve. The intimacy of the gesture sent my nerves into chaos.
Then, as if mocking me further, he nudged my lips apart and his finger grazed my tongue.
The act was bold, invasive… and cruel.
Arthur’s POV
It was the first time I’d looked at Cara this closely.
She usually made herself as invisible as possible–those plain black–and–white dresses, that awful pair of oversized black–rimmed glasses. She’d styled herself like a schoolmarm or a
grieving widow, hiding every inch of the woman beneath.
But now… up close, I could see it.

Chapter 3
Her face was delicate, small enough to fit in my palm. Behind the thick lenses, her features were pure and refined, the kind of beauty that made you look twice without knowing why. And her eyes–God, her eyes. Wide and dark, with the same innocence as a fawn caught in
headlights.
And her lips.
Soft. Full. Warm.
When I pressed my thumb against them, they paled beneath the pressure, then flushed
pink again like silk bouncing back into shape.
Tempting. Inviting.
The scent on her skin–cool mint and lily–of–the–valley–curled around my senses like a
siren’s song.
My wolf, Bob, stirred with interest. He liked her scent. Had always liked her wolf, Lily, even if Cara wasn’t my fated mate.
She didn’t reply. She only bit her lip, the red deepening under her teeth.
I couldn’t help it… My breath caught.
Her chest rose and fell beneath the tight black dress, curves shifting with every trembling breath. The swell of her breasts moved as if calling me forward. My fingers twitched with the urge to rip that dress open, to claim every inch she kept hidden.
My voice dropped as I leaned closer to her ear. “What’s the matter? Are you already wet for
me?”
SLAP!
The impact rang out sharply in the narrow hallway.
My head jerked sideways,
I stood still, stunned.

No one–not even rival alphas–had ever dared strike me.
Cara’s chest heaved with fury. “I know you’re still in love with Lucy! Fine. I’ll step aside. Let her have the Luna position back!”
My cheek stung, but the slap had done something worse–it shattered every ounce of desire
in me.
What the hell was I thinking?
I must’ve been drunk from the damned diplomatic banquet. Those human ambassadors drank like lunatics and insisted I join them.
I straightened, my voice ice–cold. “Cara, when you wanted to be Luna, you took it without
hesitation. And now, what? You walk away when it suits you? What do you think I am?
Some disposable alpha toy?”
Then she laughed.
It was a strange, wild laugh–unhinged, dangerous, and yet… breathtaking.
“Arthur,” she said sweetly, eyes blazing, “I think of you as a sex doll.”
I blinked. “What?”
She grinned, almost gleeful. “You’re the inflatable toy I snatched from Lucy. Now I’m tired of playing with it, so I’m throwing it away.”
Rage pulsed through my temples.
No wolf–no alpha–could take that kind of insult and remain calm.
“Fine,” I said through gritted teeth. “Divorce it is. Just as you wish. But Cara… you’d better
not regret this.”
I turned and stormed up the stairs. The study door slammed shut behind me like a
thunderclap.

The Next Morning
Knock knock.
“Come in.”
The door creaked open, and Jack, my loyal Beta, stepped inside with a cautious expression.
“Yes?” I asked, barely looking up from the document I was signing.
Jack approached slowly, placing a coffee cup carefully by my hand. “Alpha Arthur… this was made by Luna.”
I froze.
The pen hovered over the paper.
Was she trying to reconcile?
By all accounts, Cara had been a good Luna. She never sought praise for it, but she’d always cared for the pack–tending to orphaned pups, aiding the injured, and quietly cooking my meals just the way I liked them.
She even hand–washed my clothes, a task no one expected of her.
I picked up the cup.
The scent hit me first–bold, rich, exactly how I liked it. I took a sip, and my lips curled in
surprise.
Even the latte art was familiar–my name in delicate cursive: Arthur.
Bob wagged his tail in my mind.
‘Hmph. Writing my name on a cup now?‘
‘Cute. Pointless, but… cute.‘

Still, I reminded Bob, ‘We’re still mad.‘
One slap wasn’t something I would forget easily.
One cup of coffee wasn’t going to fix this.
Maybe ten would get her a foot in the door.
I leaned back, sipping slowly. “Has Luna admitted she was wrong?”
Jack hesitated. “Uh…” His expression twisted slightly, unsure of how to respond.
