Chapter 20
Arthur squeezed his eyes shut in frustration.
Ever since that heated moment in the shower, he’d found himself…thinking about Cara.
More than once.
It was just a fluke.
A mistake.
A moment of weakness.
He opened his eyes again. Cold. Clear. Detached.
Like it never happened.
Cara’s POV
The next morning.
In the apartment, I sat in a rattan chair, calmly reading a book.
Cathy, meanwhile, was pacing in rage.
“I can’t believe Arthur just left you for that little homewrecker! And Lucy?! Drugging herself
just to get his attention? What a pathetic, desperate little tramp!”
She had never been this furious.
Last night, when she found me curled up on the ground outside–knees hugged to my chest, tears silently falling–I must’ve looked like a stray cat that had been abandoned by its
E
master.
It broke her heart.

- though, smiled faintly.
Cathy had been cursing nonstop since last night. Her fighting spirit was truly unmatched.
But me? I’d already learned how to rebuild myself from ruins.
I popped a milk candy into my mouth. Sweetness filled my throat, and my eyes curved with
a soft smile.
“Cathy, calm down. We’ll deal with them. Payback, step by step.”
Her expression shifted.
This was the version of me she recognized. The real me. The powerful one.
Still… I knew she ached for me–for the pain I had to survive, just to stand back up again.
A muffled sound echoed from the storage room.
I set down my book and grinned.
“Let’s start with our dear Dr. Edward.”
I led Cathy to the storage room.
Inside, Edward was tied up, a cloth gag stuffed in his mouth. The moment he saw me, he started flailing like a wild animal.
Cathy yanked the cloth out.
“You little b-!” Edward spat, his eyes dark with fury.
“How dare you drug me! Do you even know who I am?! I know the miracle healer! Your mother needs me! You’re nothing but a bumpkin! You should’ve been grateful I even looked at you–being my plaything would’ve been your blessing!”
Cathy raised her hand to slap him, but I caught her wrist.

I stepped closer, towering over him despite his pathetic bravado.
You said you know the miracle healer?
Edward smirked, smug as ever.
“Of course. She’s legendary. Divine. And someone like you? You’ll never even catch a glimpse of her. Me, on the other hand… I have her number.”
I raised a brow. A slow smile played across my lips.
“Oh? You have her number? Then prove it.”
Puffed up with pride, Edward declared,
Tll call her right now.”
Cathy untied him.
He got to his feet, full of false confidence, pulled out his phone, and proudly dialed the number he’d swiped from the hospital director’s desk the day of Lucy’s consultation.
Ring-
Ring.
The call connected.
Immediately, his tone turned sickeningly sweet.
“Hello? Miracle healer? This is Dr. Edward from the Alpha Rescue Hospital. I’m honored–truly. Would I…. perhaps be lucky enough to meet you in person?”
A calm, melodious voice replied:
“Turn around.”

That voice… it sounded like it was right behind him.
No way.
He turned slowly–rigid, hesitant.
I stood there, holding my phone, a playful smirk on my face.
“Congratulations, Dr. Edward. Now you really know the miracle healer “
His legs buckled.
With a loud thud, he collapsed to his knees.
