Chapter 7
“Nothing,” Ariel murmured, eyes red as she stared out the window.
The next second, the sky outside exploded in a brilliant cascade of fireworks-
vivid, dazzling.
She remembered what Isabelle had said earlier: tonight, Damon would set off
fireworks in Thornfang Pack for her.
Seeing Ariel lost in the sight, Damon’s eyes filled with tenderness. “You like
that? Then I’ll prepare a fireworks show just for you–bigger and better than
this one, alright?”
He held her tightly, murmuring soft promises in her ear.
Ariel smiled. But her smile was bitter, laced with unshed tears.
“Damon, I don’t like leftovers.”
Fireworks. Or people.

He was silent for a moment, then hugged her tighter.
“Then I’ll prepare something else for you. A real surprise. I won’t let you envy
anyone.”
Ariel didn’t respond. She just stared quietly out into the distance.

For the next few days, Damon was out early and back late, moving around in
secrecy.
Even the staff began to notice and teased her playfully.
“Luna, Alpha’s definitely planning a surprise for you!”
“Totally! First, he customized jewelry just for you. Now he’s working on
something else. It’s just one surprise after another!”
Ariel listened in silence, her face unreadable.
Then one day, Damon showed up and, with an air of mystery, took her hand.

‘Ariel, come with me. I want to show you something. You’re going to love it.”
She was about to refuse when her phone buzzed.
A message from Isabelle.
Ariel, take a guess. Who matters more to him now–you, or me?”
Right after that, Damon’s phone vibrated too.
Ariel caught a glimpse of his screen.
It was a picture from Isabelle–her legs in black stockings, crossed and
teasingly posed. Followed by a playful message:
“Better hurry, I won’t wait forever!”
Damon’s eyes darkened instantly. His Adam’s apple bobbed.
Seconds later, he slipped the phone back into his coat. “Ariel, something’s up
with the patrol squad. I need to go handle it.”

“I’ll show you the surprise another time, okay?”
Ariel met his gaze and smiled softly.
Then, without a word, she opened the car door and stepped out.
Through the window, she looked at Damon like she was staring at a rotting
apple.
She didn’t know when it started–but Damon’s heart had festered this far.
His car roared to life and sped off without a single glance back.
A few hours later, Isabelle sent her another message.
A photo of a trash bin–stuffed full of used condoms.
“Ariel, looks like you lost again. I’m still pregnant, and he couldn’t even wait. Tell
me, how much must he love me?”
Isabelle’s tone dripped with smugness. Ariel stared at the photos but didn’t

reply.
She had already made her decision to leave. Nothing Isabelle did could hurt
her now.
In the days that followed, Damon didn’t come home.
Ariel didn’t ask.
But Isabelle’s messages kept coming–nonstop.
Sometimes a deer leg bone with bite marks. Sometimes a hunting knife
carved from beast bones. Sometimes a picture of Damon, fast asleep in her
bed…
Every little message screamed. Damon loves me now.
Ariel didn’t respond.
She was too busy erasing every trace of herself from this house.

If she was going to disappear, she’d do it completely.
