chapter31
“I crossed the line?” Jericho’s gaze instantly darkened. “Which eye of yours saw me do anything to betray you?”
Even though she had never seen it with her own eyes, his attitude toward Nadine had already made everything clear.
Especially the child’s name…
“Let go.”
Romina had no desire to get entangled with him and just wanted to leave.
But Jericho pressed her arm, pinning her against the wall.
Just as he was about to speak, a deep voice came from the entrance of the hallway: “If you have something to say, say it properly. What’s with all the grabbing and pushing?”
At the sound, Romina and Jericho turned their heads simultaneously.
A familiar figure suddenly appeared before their eyes.
Why did Joaquin suddenly come back?
“Joaquin, I was just a little emotional…”
Jericho instinctively released his grip on Romina, and when he looked at the man in front of him, his brows furrowed for a moment.
Joaquin glanced at him with an indifferent expression, then shifted his gaze toward Romina.
Romina’s eyes happened to meet his.
After just a second, Joaquin looked away and turned to Jericho beside him: “Were you two arguing just now?”
Jericho hesitated, unable to speak.
Seeing that he didn’t respond, Romina spoke calmly: “We just had some disagreements.”
“What kind of disagreements? Was it because Grandpa doesn’t agree with our divorce and keeps trying to bring us to- gether? When he saw her come back today, he insisted I bring the child home too. If he knew she was here today…”
“If I had known you were coming back, I definitely wouldn’t have come.”
Before he could finish, Romina interrupted him.
“Romina, do you have to embarrass me like this?”
“Weren’t you the one who embarrassed me first?”

A cold, thin smile appeared at the corner of Romina’s lips, and a chill flashed in her eyes.
“You also…”
Jericho wanted to say more, but was interrupted by a voice: “Dinner is ready.”
The group turned their heads at the sound, looking toward the kitchen.
It was the aunt who had finished preparing the meal and was calling them to cat.
Joaquin was the first to look away, gazing at the two of them: “Since everyone is here, let’s have a proper dinner tonight. Don’t argue in front of Hayden anymore; you know his health isn’t good.”
After saying this, his gaze lingered intentionally or unintentionally on Jericho.
That slightly warning look was imprinted in Jericho’s eyes.
“I’ll go call them in for dinner.”
Romina gestured to Joaquin in front of her, and the man leaned slightly to the side, making way for her.
As Romina passed by the man, her shoulder brushed lightly against the crook of his arm.
She could smell the faint, cold scent on the man.
In just a second, the two of them had already put some distance between them.
Joaquin glanced at the direction Romina left, his eyes as dark as ink, exceptionally deep.
“Joaquin, why did you suddenly come back today?”
“Sir Bowman asked me to come back and have dinner with him. I didn’t expect you two to be here as well.” Joaquin said calmly, “At the last family dinner, you had such a big argument. Maybe Sir Bowman wants to make up for that.”
“I’m really sorry that because of our issues, you all have such unpleasant memories…”
“The person you should truly apologize to isn’t us.’
Jericho didn’t even finish his sentence before Joaquin cut him off.
There was a hidden meaning in his words.
Jericho naturally understood.
Before he could respond, Joaquin strode away quickly.
He watched Joaquin’s departing figure, his eyes gradually darkening.
Why did it always feel like…
Joaquin was always deliberately protecting that woman.
Was it just his imagination?

Because Hayden was present, Romina had no choice but to finish the dinner no matter what.
She even had to drink a couple of glasses with them.
It wasn’t until later that night that Romina understood Hayden’s intentions.
“Romina, you’re very drunk. Just stay and rest tonight! You can share a room with Jericho, and let the child sleep with me…”
Hayden looked at her kindly, his eyes revealing an eager desire to bring them together.
Romina glanced at the man beside her, about to refuse, but Jericho spoke first: “Grandpa, I still have work to handle tonight, so I probably can’t stay.”
“What work could be more important than your wife? Don’t go anywhere tonight, just stay and take care of Romi. She’s so drunk, how can she be left alone?”
Romina looked up at Hayden, but unintentionally glanced at the man beside him.
Joaquin was leaning against the back of the sofa, his elbow propped up, fingertips lightly touching his lips, watching everything before him with an indifferent expression.
