Chapter 13
They were so close to each other that he could feel her rising body temperature even through his suit.
He felt her forehead.
She was running a fever.
And it was rather severe.
He soon withdrew his hand and called his assistant, Erick Dotson. “Tell the doctor to come to Beresford Manor.”
“Alright, Mr. Bowman,” Erick said.
Half an hour later, at Beresford Manor.
Erick led the family doctor to the second floor.
A tall, slender figure stood by the door to the master bedroom.
Erick had thought Joaquin was feeling unwell. But as he stepped inside, he spotted a woman in bed.
Joaquin was more or less a clean freak. Only the maid, Freya Sanford, was ever allowed to enter the bedroom for cleaning.
Standing aside, Erick couldn’t help but study the woman.
Who was she?
Her condition improved after she took the pills. When she groggily opened her eyes again, half an hour had passed.
She was stunned as she saw the unfamiliar surroundings.
Everything she saw was black, white, or gray. Even the light-blocking curtains were pitch black.
The scene before she passed out resurfaced in her mind.
She had gotten into Joaquin’s car…
Was this his room?
Lifting the blanket and sitting up, she realized she was still burning up.
Enduring the great discomfort, she pushed open the door and walked out.
“Ma’am, you’re awake.”
In the next second, she met a pair of kind eyes.

She presumed it was the maid.
Seeing her look around, Freya pointed toward the end of the hallway. “You’re probably wondering where Mr. Bow- man is. He’s in the study…”
Nodding slightly, Romina knew Freya was referring to Joaquin.
She slowly walked down the hallway and knocked on the study door.
“Come in.”
As his deep voice rang out, she opened the door and entered.
She immediately recognized his tall, slender frame by the floor-to-ceiling window.
“Mr. Bowman, why am I at your place?”
Joaquin turned around, only to see her haggard face.
He walked past her expressionless. “You passed out after getting into my car. I didn’t know where you live, so I had to take you back. Freya’s already helped you take your medicine.”
Figuring Freya was the maid, she nodded. “Thank you, Mr. Bowman.”
“What happened to Uncle Joaquin?”
He walked around the massive desk before pulling out his chair and sitting down.
Caught off guard by the question, she was a bit confused.
“You addressed me that in the car, didn’t you? Jericho hasn’t signed the divorce papers, so you’re still his wife. Indeed, you should call me ‘Uncle Joaquin’.”
Leaning against the chair, he arched an eyebrow slightly and rested his deep gaze on her, his expression unreadable.
Driven by the crazy idea, she had addressed him as “Uncle Joaquin”.
But now, she was feeling unwell, so she just blurted out “Mr. Bowman”.
As she was about to respond, a childish voice sounded outside.
“Daddy, is Uncle Joaquin home?”
She couldn’t help but be stunned.
It was Kashton.
What was he doing here?
“Yes, he is. I already checked.”
She panicked at Jericho’s voice.

Chapter 13
She had just asked Jericho for a divorce in front of everyone. If they saw her here, she’d never clear her name.
To avoid unnecessary trouble and misunderstandings, she decided to hide herself for now.
Looking around, she realized nowhere was better for hiding than under the desk.
“Mr. Bowman, don’t tell them I’m here…”
She strode forward, circled around the desk, and stopped in front of Joaquin.
He instantly realized her intention upon noticing her gaze fixed under the desk.
A half-smile played on his lips.
Things were getting more and more interesting…
Nodding slightly, he moved back in his chair to make room for her.
As footsteps outside were approaching, Romina quickly bent down and hid underneath the desk.
The second Joaquin pulled back with the chair, a whisper of cedarwood scent drifted to her.
