“You think you can just take me like this? Damien will notice I’m gone. He won’t let you get away with it.” Grayson’s expression twisted with rage. He swept everything off the tray in front of him in a fit of fury.
He grabbed Savannah’s chin, his eyes burning with jealousy.
“You had to bring him up again. You trying to make me snap?!”
Realizing he’d lost control, Grayson quickly calmed himself.
“I’m sorry, Savvy. I didn’t mean to raise my voice.”
“Just promise me–whatever he means to you–forget him once we’re home, okay?”
“You have me now. I’ll treat you ten times better than he ever could.”
Savannah stared at him, her voice eerily calm.
“At least he never forced me to do anything. That alone makes him better than you’ll ever be.” “Enough!”
Grayson yanked the rope tighter and pulled her into his arms.
“You’re only saying that because you’ve forgotten how good we were.”
“I’ve changed. I mean it. I’ve repented for everything.“.
“Sweetheart, just give it some time. Stay with me for a while–you’ll remember how good we had it.”

Savannah knew Grayson was past the point of reason–no matter what she said, it wouldn’t reach him.
Saying anything else would be pointless.
So she swallowed her disgust and played along,
No fighting. No talking. Just silence.
And finally, seeing her so quiet, Grayson began to calm down.
When the chopper landed, he brought her straight back to the Whitaker estate.
She hadn’t been back in five years. The garden pond had been filled in.
A dog that looked strikingly like Snowy ran to greet her at the door, tail wagging.
There was a new gallery now, and on its walls were recreations of the paintings Savannah had once burned.
They were close–but not quite right. Each canvas was only a faint echo of her original work.
Because every single one had been meticulously copied by Grayson, stroke by stroke, from old surveillance footage in the studio.
Grayson beamed as he showed them off.
“What do you think? Isn’t it beautiful?”
“I’ve kept everything just the way it was. I’ve taken care of it all myself.”
He tugged her hand and led her upstairs.
“Come on, let me show you your room.‘
Upstairs, the bedroom was newly renovated, yet everything she used to like was still in place.
Except now, the walk–in closet and vanity were overflowing with designer gowns from five years ago and an obscene amount of jewelry.
Grayson guided her hand across the glittering display.
“I know you burned our memories out of anger.
“It’s okay. I’ve bought you new ones. Better ones.”
He lifted one necklace after another, holding them up for her to see.
“Look, don’t you like them?”
“I picked each one carefully. Every single piece is flawless.”
“Grayson.”
Savannah’s voice cut through the room like ice.
“I don’t want any of this,
“No matter how beautiful this place is, it’s still just a gilded cage you built for me.”
“I want my own life.My own career. I want freedom. Can’t you understand that?”
Grayson’s smile twitched, faltering into something brittle.
“I’m not taking your freedom, Savvy. I just want you near me.”
“But that is taking it.”
Savannah’s voice stayed level and sure.

“My definition of freedom is never seeing you again for the rest of my life.”
Grayson’s face contorted in disbelief.
He tilted his head, drawing close. “Savvy… you’re joking, right?”
“You’ve seen everything I’ve done for you. You wouldn’t be that heartless.”
“You’re just testing me, aren’t you? Trying to see how far I’ll go?”
Then, suddenly, he lit up like he’d remembered something important.
“Wait. There’s still one thing you haven’t seen. Once you do, I know you’ll forgive me.”
He clasped her hand again, leading her mysteriously downstairs.
