Chapter 18
Grayson hadn’t shown his face in front of Savannah for a while–not since he got his face smashed in.
Mrs. Shaw insisted on taking Savannah back to the hospital for a check–up, not entirely convinced her recovery was going smoothly.
But midway through, a sudden work call pulled her away.
Savannah had just stepped out of the doctor’s office when she ran into Grayson in the corridor–he was checking out of the hospital.
Despite the bruises and bandages, he looked anything but worn down.
in fact, the second he saw her, his eyes lit up with excitement.
He rushed toward her, hope burning on his face. “Savvy! You came to see me? You still care about me, don’t you?”
He spun in a little circle, gesturing to himself like some kind of show pony. “Look–I’m almost fully healed! No need to worry about me.”
Savannah’s voice was ice. She turned to leave.
“I’m here for a follow–up. Not for you.”
Grayson hurried to block her path.
“A follow–up? What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
Savannah let out a bitter laugh.
“You really don’t know what’s wrong with me, Grayson?”
“I almost died of heart failure in your house. Ring any bells?”
Grayson grabbed her arm, fingers tightening without thinking.
“Sorry… I was just… worried.”
Then, utterly shameless, he added, “Why don’t you come back with me? You’re all alone in a foreign country–I don’t feel right letting you go through this alone.”
“If anything like this happens again, you should have me with you.”
“Come home, Savvy. I’ll take care of you just like before.”
Savannah wrenched her arm away.
“Are you done with your little act?”
“To anyone else watching, you probably look like some heartbroken ex–boyfriend.”
“But we both know your idea of ‘taking care‘ meant sending Madeline to interrogate me over and over again.”
“You threw me in the morgue. Locked me in a steam room. Held me under the water. You killed my dog, twisted my leg until the bone split.”
“Do you know how lucky I was to escape your house alive?”
“Now that I finally have a new life, now that I’m free, you want to drag me back into hell?”
“Well, let me save you the trouble–no chance.”
Every word landed like a blade, straight to Grayson’s chest.
He clutched his heart, breath catching
TTOV
A tear hit the floor as he choked out, “Savvy, please, listen to me I was blind. Maddie tricked me.”

“Now the truth has come to light. She staged those ten disappearances on her own. It had nothing to do with you. I swear.”
“And I never loved her. She just looked a little like you… that’s all.”
“I know you hate her, so I’ve locked her up in the basement.”
“If you come back with me, she’s all yours. Do whatever you want to her.”
Savannah staggered back like she didn’t even recognize him.
“You’re wrong. I do hate Madeline, but the one I hate most–is you.”
“No matter how awful she was, all she did was lie.”
“She didn’t force you to believe her. She didn’t make you twist the knife with all those sick games.”
“So don’t act like she’s the villain here—because the real one has always been you, Grayson.”
“The things you said, the things you did… and now you think a pathetic ‘sorry‘ is enough to cover it all up?”
Grayson thought he had it all figured out. Just move his lips, throw out a few empty words–like that could erase it.
But who’s going to pay for the heart he shattered, the pain she swallowed for years?
From the moment Savannah stepped onto that plane five years ago, everything between them was already dead.
And no matter what, she would never forgive Grayson again.
Realizing Savannah had no intention of returning to Crestmoor with him, Grayson changed tactics.
“Fine. If you won’t come back, I’ll bring the company here.”
“Wherever you go, I’ll be there too. Just like before—I won’t leave your side.”
The words struck her like lightning. That fear–the cold, suffocating fear of being locked away again–rushed over her like a tidal wave. Her face went pale.
“No. I don’t want that.”
“I don’t want to see you. Not here, not back home, not ever.”
Grayson grabbed her hand and dropped to his knees, eyes bloodshot, tears brimming. He looked insane.
“Savvy… look at me. Do you really hate me that much?”
“We used to love each other. Your father–he asked me to take care of you before he passed.”
“We still have a whole lifetime ahead of us. I won’t let you walk away now.”
Savannah trembled. His face was too close. Too familiar. And yet–she felt nothing but horror.
She tried to struggle, but the more she did, the tighter his grip became, Grayson looked desperate. Unhinged.
Like a man on the edge, trying to claw his way back through force.
“Help!” Savannah shouted. “Somebody help me! He’s harassing me!”
She kept yelling, trapped in his hold.
People rushed over, their expressions turning to disgust and concern. Security was called.
Grayson finally let go, a bitter smile tugging at his lips.
She’d rather face public shame and fake assault claims than spend another minute with him. Chapter 18

Savannah stumbled back, still shaking, and left surrounded by a wall of strangers.
Just as she reached the exit, she heard him screaming behind her.
“Savannah! I’m never letting you go!”
