Chapter 12
As soon as Grayson left the Whitaker estate, he made an announcement.
[Three days from now, Madeline would marry into the Whitaker family–in grand style.]
Madeline never expected happiness to come this fast.
After Grayson coldly rejected her last time, she’d believed their story ended there.
Early that morning, she waited at the Whitaker estate, trying to act coy.
“Grayson, don’t you think three days is a bit rushed? I haven’t even picked out my wedding dress.”
“And the venue, the ceremony, all those details take time to plan.”
Grayson replied blandly, “My schedule clears in three days. Take it or leave it.”
Madeline’s expression stiffened. “Of course I’ll take it!”
She leaned in, stroking the back of his hand.
“I’ve dreamed of this day since the moment we met.”
“Becoming your bride–it’s everything I’ve ever wanted.”
“Sure, it’s a little last–minute, but I’ll just have the staff handle everything. Won’t take long at all.”
Grayson sipped his tea and said casually, “Should we invite your parents?”
Madeline blurted out, “Let’s not. My mom’s… not suited for an event like this. She’d feel out of place.”
Then she froze. Realized what she’d just said.
“I mean–Grayson, I was just joking,” she backpedaled quickly.
“My mom’s been gone for years. A wedding’s too festive for someone who’s passed.”
Grayson just smiled, seemingly uninterested in pressing the matter.
Madeline let out a secret sigh of relief. She’d dodged another bullet.
Grayson still loved her–still indulged her like he used to.
Once they were married, once everything was official, she’d bring her mom over.
By then, Grayson wouldn’t dare say anything.
She beamed.
“Alright then, I’m off to pick out my gown. I’ll come back to see you later!”
As soon as Madeline left, Grayson wiped the back of his hand with a handkerchief scrubbing hard,
Then he tossed it into the trash like it was garbage.
News of the upcoming Whitaker wedding spread like wildfire.
Madeline walked around like a queen overnight, instantly becoming a household name in Crestmoor Heights,
The girls from the bottom rung could only look on with envy.
As for the real socialites? They were all disgusted. A mistress clawing her way into the spotlight–what a joke.
But Madeline didn’t care.

As long as she could marry into the Whitaker family and secure the title of Mrs. Whitaker, she’d have a lifetime of luxury.
Reputation? Please. Grayson liked her. Spoiled her.
He wouldn’t let any of that nasty talk reach her ears.
The entire wedding wa’s left to Madeline to plan.
She picked the most expensive gown. The flashiest venue. The grandest arrangements.
When the big day arrived, the venue was packed. Guests streamed in like waves, feeding every inch of Madeline’s vanity.
But when it came time for the bride and groom to make their entrance, Grayson showed up in casual clothes —
And pushed a cage covered in black cloth onto the stage.
The guests buzzed with confusion. Madeline hurried up to him, whispering in panic, “Grayson, did you forget to change?”
Then she turned to bark at the staff. “What the hell is wrong with you people? His tux was ordered ages ago!”
“Go get it–now!”
The staff all stood to the side, pale and silent.
Time was ticking. Madeline didn’t want to cause a scene.
She grabbed Grayson’s arm, putting on her sweetest voice.
“It’s fine. We can still get married without the tux.”
She twirled the hem of her gown for him. “As long as I’m pretty, that’s all that matters, right?”
“Whatever you want to wear -I’ll match you.”
Grayson deliberately stepped away from her.
With one swift motion, he ripped off the black cloth.
A cold smirk curved his lips. “Who said the groom isn’t dressed?”
Inside the cage was the ugliest black pug anyone had ever seen.
Its nose was dripping, a half–eaten bone lay beside it-
And yet it was dressed in a pristine white tuxedo.
Grayson took the microphone from the officiant.
“This is Snort. He’s in heat and needed a bride.”
“And Miss Rhodes here has graciously agreed to marry him. Isn’t that right?”
All he’d said was Madeline would marry into the Whitaker family. He never said she’d marry him.
Marrying the family dog still counts as marrying into the Whitakers, doesn’t it?
Madeline went pale She grabbed Grayson’s arm, shaking her head furiously.
“No! That’s not what this is! Grayson–we’ve been together for so long, I’m supposed to marry you!”
Grayson yanked his arm away without mercy.
He picked up a document from a waiter’s tray.
“My fiancée is missing. I have no intention of remarrying”

“So if Miss Rhodes is backing out of the ceremony, that’s her choice.”
“In that case, the Whitaker family is no longer responsible for the wedding expenses.”
He shoved a pen into her hand.
“Here’s the bill. Total: eight hundred million. Sign it.”
Madeline stared at the number on the page like it might explode.
“What–what do you mean eight hundred million?! That’s impossible!”
