Chapter 8
William was still dazed when he signed the divorce papers. He had no idea why his father suddenly switched sides- just stood there, helpless, while I walked away with the agreement and Brandon.
In the car, Brandon couldn’t hold it in. “You’re really gonna let the Garnier family off that easy?”
I let out a cold laugh. “In his dreams. They owe me─I’m taking back double.”
Brandon grinned, clearly satisfied. “For a second I thought you’d gone soft while I was gone.”
Yeah, Brandon wasn’t one to mess with. And I wasn’t some docile little thing either.
They used to call me “Buzz Kill”. Anyone who dared cross me-I’d come back swinging, no matter the cost.
After all, I’m Dad’s only daughter. Since day one, he raised me to be tough enough to guard the Jallot family fortune. He taught me to protect my interests-and never accept defeat.
Then I met William, and it felt as though I had lost my mind. I forgot who I was.
Lucky for me, even at my most lovesick, I never confused the two families. Nothing from our side was ever free.
Over the years, I used the Garnier Group’s platform to close deal after deal. I even secured tech that was critical to their entire operation. I never told William any of that.
Maybe someone reported it to him. But I bet he brushed it off.
That pride of his-he’d never admit the Garnier Group thrived because of the Jallot family’s support. And he’d never believe a housewife like me could outdo him at anything.
“What was in that document?” Brandon asked, genuinely curious. “I’ve never seen Thiago look that scared.”
Thiago was a man who built everything from scratch. He’d faced every challenge the business world could throw at him. The kind of man who wouldn’t flinch-even if he went bankrupt.
“It doesn’t matter,” I said, smiling faintly. “The Garnier family’s probably in chaos by now.”
When I first married William, I heard Thiago had a first wife who died in an accident. Out of grief, he never remar- ried. Everyone said he was faithful, and dedicated.
I admired that kind of love. But the moment I tried to learn more about her, I stumbled upon some shady forums and gossip blogs.
The most searched headline? “Thiago Garnier Drove His Wife to Her Death, All for His Secretary.”
The rumor said Thiago’s secretary secretly sent private videos to his wife-taunting her. Furious and heartbroken, the wife confronted him. That same night, she got into a fatal car crash. While she died alone on the roadside, Thiago was
still in bed with the secretary.
There were suspicions of murder. But the story vanished quickly-buried under hush money. Thiago took a bold to clear up the mess. He declared he’d never remarry and claimed he’d love his late wife until death.
The internet went wild over his “devoted husband” image. It even boosted the Garnier Group’s stock. And right that, his favorite secretary disappeared.
The whole thing smelled off. So, I quietly launched my investigation. I didn’t expect to actually find something.
Turned out, the secretary was already pregnant when she disappeared. It took me three years, but yesterday I found the child.
I looked down at Sharon’s DNA report and let out a cold laugh.
So, William’s little affair was all part of a long-planned revenge.
