Chapter 6
The roar made Lilith stumble backward.
Zephyr had grown up in a rigid, oppressive environment. The thing he hated most was disobedience,
She’d used this knowledge to drive a wedge between me and Zephyr.
This was the first time he’d ever shouted at her for it.
“Isadora isn’t like that… Find out who did this to her! NOW!”
Zephyr’s voice cracked as he glanced at Lilith, his arms trembling around the feral vampire.
Even he didn’t realize how badly he was shaking.
Lilith paled at the sudden shift in atmosphere, forcing herself to offer the baby with nervous laughter.
“Zephyr, I’m sorry. I was wrong to suspect Isadora.”
“Please don’t be angry. The baby’s been crying–I think he wants his father.”
She held out the infant hopefully, but Zephyr brushed past her without a glance, carrying the feral vampire toward the bathroom.
He knew how much I valued cleanliness, how I couldn’t stand even the smallest stain.
Even transformed into this nightmare, he wanted me clean.
Warm water cascaded over us both as tears finally spilled from Zephyr’s eyes.
He suddenly remembered how fastidious I was, and he’d thrown me into that putrid hellscape.
Left me to rot in the filth and corruption of the Feeding Grounds,
Crushing guilt consumed him completely.
But why had he done it?
Zephyr’s head pounded with confusion.
It seemed like… Lilith had claimed I’d deliberately bared fangs to frighten her.
But she came from a legendary vampire hunting family. Why would she be afraid?
Zephyr went rigid, slowly looking down at the creature in his arms.
In that moment, he barely recognized himself.
He began questioning everything about his treatment of Lilith.
Why he’d been so protective of a human girl.
Why he’d hurt the woman who’d stood by him for fifteen years, who’d given up everything to become his mate.
Zephyr stared at his reflection in the water.
For the first time in his immortal life, he was consumed with self–doubt.
Perhaps this innocent human girl wasn’t innocent at all.
After a carefully cleaning, Zephyr carried me from the bathroom.
The butler he’d sent to investigate had returned.

Chapter 6
With surveillance footage and several bloodied prisoners.
Zephyr adjusted the half–dry hair of the creature in his arms, then ordered the butler forward.
The humans knelt before him, shaking uncontrollably.
Zephyr studied their faces, noting the resemblance to Lilith.
“Lord-”
Before the butler could speak, Lilith burst through the door.
“Zephyr, whatever he says is lies! Don’t believe him!”
She lunged desperately toward the butler, trying to seize what he carried.
Within seconds, she was restrained.
At Zephyr’s nod, the butler continued his interrupted report.
“Miss Lilith injected the mistress with feral vampire serum, causing this transformation.”
“These are Lilith’s family members. They planned to infiltrate and slaughter everyone in the manor after her child was born.”
“Also… Miss Lilith’s child is fully human. It isn’t yours, Lord.”
The butler respectfully handed over surveillance footage and paternity test results.
Zephyr accepted them, his expression deadly.
Meeting his predatory gaze, Lilith convulsed with terror.
“No… it’s not true!”
“Zephyr, listen to me! These are all fabricated! Isadora isn’t dead!”
