Chapter 31
I moved with River across the country, and started making the same mistakes. I didn’t want to get close to them, just to lose them, I didnt want to betray Missy by caring for them either.
But, that was an eight year olds mind, now I have a whole new set of excuses and reasons,
I stretched and inhaled, my arms going above my head. “Hurry up and get back,” I mumbled and yawned sleepily. Then, the doorbell rang
I jumped to my feet and skidded through the house, throwing the door open. “Hi” I froze and stared at the four police officers. My smile slowly fell off my face and I looked up at them timidly.
“Hello, is River home?” The main one asked, and I slammed the door in their faces.
“No, come back later,” I said and glanced at the locks, debating. They weren’t normal human police, they were paranormal police. And I didn’t like
them one bit.
“Is anyone else home?” The officer called, and I glared at the door.
“Yes,” I said simply, slowly backing away from the door, not feeling safe without anyone else in the house. The police had made Missy’s death difficult, when I was grieving, and they asked personal and ridiculous questions.
“Can we come in then? We really need to talk to them,” the doorknob twitched and my heart skipped a beat. I moved beside the door and grabbed a
vase.
When the door opened, I smacked it into the man’s head, the other three looking at me in shock. I dropped what didn’t break, and ran up the stairs. “Hey, you can’t just-” one of them called, and I looked over my shoulder, terrified when one of them followed me up the stairs.
I ran into the bathroom and climbed up onto the sink, heart pounding in my chest. The door opened, and I jumped up, legs going around the officers neck tightly.
He stumbled to the side, hands reached up to try to pry my legs off, the fact that he was trying not to hurt me,
didn’t even cross my mind.
He slammed into the wall, trying to knock me off, but he was nothing compared to the vampires who usually tried to manhandle me.
When he sank to the floor, out like a light, I ran silently into my room, going into the bathroom, reaching up to the top cupboard, pulling myself up.
I curled up and closed the small door, calming my breathing and closing my eyes. I was so cramped, but even when someone walked in, looking for me, they didn’t even think to look up, not considering that a girl of my size could get up, much less fit.
I bit my lip, relieved when the bathroom became silent. The police broke into the wrong house, they’re going to kill them when they get back.
“The fuck do you mean you scared and lost her?!” A voice demanded, and I slowly opened the cupboard.
“River, I’m in here!” I called, and I heard the door to my room open before the vampire entered the bathroom and took a moment before glancing up. His blue eyes were full of mirth. “You knocked out two police officers,”
I blushed. “Yeah, can you help me down?” I reached out, and River held me to his chest before exiting the bathroom and my room, walking down stairs.
I glared at the four officers, one of which who was fouching his neck tenderly, and another who had an ice pack on his head.
“Why are they still in the house?” I asked as River set me down on my feet.
“That’s some human girl you’ve got there,” one of the ones I didn’t get the chance to assault pointed out.
Lion glanced at his nails. “She learned from the best,” his eyes narrowed. “Although, she shouldn’t have had to use her skills.”
The four men shivered. “Hey, well check this out,” Dune looked at me. “Raven, what are they?”
I pointed at ice pack guy. “Werewolf,” I gestured at the one I choked. “Incubus,” I took a moment in the other two. “You’re a werewolf too, and you’re a wizard.”
Chapter 31
Dune stuck his nose in the air. “That’s my girl,” I grinned and shifted on my feet.
“Why are the police here?” I asked curiously.
“Afraid that’s my fault,” a voice said, and I turned, eyes lighting up.
“Mr. Nicholas!”
He smiled at my enthusiasm. “You don’t have call me that outside of school, Nicholas is fine.” I nodded and jumped into a chair.
“So, why are the police here?” I questioned, and I frowned when Kayla cleared her throat.
“Raven, let’s get out of the way, I think you’ve caused enough trouble.”
I crossed my arms. “You can get out of the way, I want to be here,” I told her stubbornly and smiled cheekily at River. “So, the police?”
River’s lips rose. “Go, Raven,”
I threw my hands into the air. “I want to know! I need to know!” I whined, not getting up.
River narrowed his eyes. “Raven, now is not the time for this, out you go, we’ll talk about it later.”
I sighed and stood, looking up at him with puppy eyes. “Promise?” I help out my pinky, and River shook it firmly.
