Chapter 3
At the other end of the leash was my newborn daughter.
Her tiny body was almost translucent, her skin paper thin.
When she looked at me, her eyes held a desperate will to live.
I lunged forward with a strangled cry.
My hands shook as I tried to untie the collar around her neck, to remove the muzzle strapped to her face.
Lilith’s smile widened with vicious satisfaction.
She stepped aside gracefully and kicked me to the floor.
“Isadora, what’s the rush? Zephyr told me this little beast will grow up to be a bloodthirsty monster. I’m just training her early?
“Can’t have her hurting our baby when she’s older, can we?”
My vision went red with rage. Meeting her malicious gaze, I snarled through gritted teeth.
“She’s NOT a monster!”
Lilith laughed as if I’d told the greatest joke in the world, pressing her heel into my torn abdomen.
“Ha! Don’t deny it now. A beast is a beast!”
My daughter seemed to sense the danger, struggling desperately and clawing at Lilith’s ankle.
Thud!
The next second, my baby was kicked across the hallway.
Lilith’s eyes gleamed with triumph as she mouthed silently: “I won.”
Then she pointed at a tiny scratch on her ankle and began crying.
“Zephyr! I’m so scared! Isadora’s baby scratched me. Will I turn into one of monster?”
Being wounded by a feral vampire would curse a human with the same bloodthirsty madness.
Zephyr appeared instantly, and hearing her sobs, his face grew thunderous.
He tenderly took Lilith’s hand, his voice deadly quiet.
“Take that thing to the Feeding Grounds. Now!”
At his command, servants swarmed forward.
“No… you can’t!”
I screamed, desperately fighting them off, shielding my broken daughter with my body.
There wasn’t even a real scratch on Lilith’s leg.
My daughter was the one bleeding, barely clinging to life.
How could he send her to the Feeding Grounds?
That nightmare realm where feral vampires would tear her apart and even devour her soul.
I collapsed at Zephyr’s feet, trembling.

Chapter 3
“Zephyr, please, I’m begging you. Don’t do this. She’s your daughter too. You can’t—”
“Enough, Isadora! When did you become so pathetic? Groveling over a beast–look at yourself!”
Zephyr stared down at me with cold disappointment.
He was disgusted that I’d lost my dignity as his mate.
Disgusted that I’d defy him over “a beast.”
But she was my daughter!
I turned to Lilith through my tears, grasping her ankle.
Desperately begging her to spare my child’s life.
Zephyr’s patience finally snapped completely.
“Isadora, since you care so much about this beast, watch carefully.”
With his own hands, he hurled my daughter into the Feeding Grounds.
One terrible scream, then even that fragile cry went silent forever.
I knelt on the cold floor, howling my despair until my throat was raw.
I reached out but caught nothing, and finally even my voice failed me.
Lilith nodded with satisfaction, shooting me one last triumphant look before wrapping her arms around Zephyr’s neck.
“Zephyr, I feel so sick. Is the curse taking hold?”
Watching my bloodless face, Zephyr’s brow furrowed with something that might have been panic.
But his attention quickly returned to Lilith, gathering her close as they left me there.
I slumped to the ground in stunned silence, staring at my daughter’s bloodstains, when blood suddenly poured from my mouth.
My vision went dark, and I passed out cold.
