It was something in the bushes, and it was big-
I let out a blood curling scream and covered my face, terrified. “Raven, are you okay?”
I peeked through my fingers, and Nicholas knelt down in the snow. I reached forward, hugging him to me, surprising him.
“I thought you were a bear!” I cried and held him tightly. Nicholas sighed softly.
“Are you hurt? I smell blood,”
I leaned back a little and raised my hand. “Yes, I cut my hand, and I hurt my foot. Emma pushed me, she should be suspended.” I told him as he lifted me up into his arms.
“Funny, because she told me you went to the hotel, but no one had seen you all day. Except for early this morning,” Nicholas glanced at my face he walked through the woods. “When you taught the kitchen staff how to dance,”
I smiled, resting in his chest. “Guilty,” I said and closed my eyes, sighing in relief. “I thought everyone forgot about me,”
Nicholas laughed. “How any one could forget some one like you, is beyond me.”
I pouted. What is that supposed to mean?” I whined, making the vampire laugh.
“You’re a tad bit crazy, which isn’t surprising since-” Nicholas paused and I peeked up at his face.
“Since what?”
Nicholas looked down at me, our green eyes clashing. “Since you were raised by Missy,”
I tensed. “How do you know about her?” My voice shook in the mention of my old caretaker.
Nicholas sighed. “Well, she was my mother,”
My jaw dropped. “What?! How come I don’t remember you then? Are you lying?”
Nicholas shook his head. “I don’t believe we ever met, although I saw you at a distance, Missy and I didn’t see eye to eye.”
I narrowed my eyes. “How do I know you’re not lying?”
Nicholas closed his eyes briefly. “She had light purple curly hair, hated the beetles, always ate dessert first, loved to go on late night walks, never went into the water, and loved kids.”
I nodded a little. “That’s Missy, so, how come,” I paused and frowned, glancing up at the vampire who answered my unasked question.
“I was supposed to get you, not River,” Nicholas said after a moment. “I was… too busy with work though, so I passed you on to him.”
“Wow, is that why you’re at my school?” I asked, resting in his neck sleepily.
“Partly, yes, I always wanted the help of the other vampires living with River.”
I yawned and nuzzled into him. “Why? What do you need help with? Is it something I can do too?”
Nicholas made a sound. “I certainly hope you wouldn’t be helping,”
“Nicholas, are you going to leave? Or do you think you’ll stay? I kind of like you, you seem nice,”
The vampire shook his head. “You’re only saying that because I saved you from the snow.”
I giggled. “Nu’uh, you’re way more chill than the others, except Dune, usually, so you’re nice.” I touched his neck lightly with my good hand “Besides. you’re Missy’s son, that already makes you amazing in my book.”
“What do you think of seeing River?” Nicholas asked suddenly. I frowned and shrugged.

Chapter 27
“Depends, is he still mad at me?” I asked, eyes still closed with exhaustion.
Nicholas sighed. “I don’t know, why don’t you ask him, he’s standing in front of me.”
A choking sound left me lips and my eyes flew open, and seeing blue eyes, a cry came from my mouth, hands reaching out without a thought.
River easily pulled me into him, and a soft sigh of relief came from me. “Are you still ignoring me?”
“Never again,” River whispered, voice filled with emotion. “God, we’re horrible,”
I lifted my head and met his blue eyes. “Yes, you’re all horrible,” I agreed. “So, is Dune here, and do you think the kitchen would let him make hot chocolate?”
River looked rather surprised at my words, but I looked at him steadily. “Thank you, Nicholas,” River said, looking away from me and at the other vampire.
He nodded shortly and glanced at me. “I’ll see you soon, Raven,”
I waved and smiled. “Bye, Nicholas,” I called before yawning sleepily. “River, is everyone mad at me? For running off.”
River began walking. “Yes, of course they are, but I don’t think they’ll show it, well, Cross probably will.”
“River, are you still mad at me?”
River shook his head shortly. “No, not even in the slightest, I just want you home.”
I nibbled on my bottom lip. “You mean we can’t stay for the field trip?”
River met my gaze. “Don’t push your luck,”
I sighed, well, there’s always next year,
I had slept well that evening, and in the morning, woke up in my own bed. I showered and dressed before stumbling down the stairs, foot seeming to have magically healed on its own.
I hit a hard chest as I walked into the dining room and looked up, flinching at the sight of Cross for no reason. I gasped when he picked me up by the hips and lifted me into the air.
I kicked. “Cross, what the hell!” I snapped and paused seeing the other four vampires at the table. An odd flush came to my cheeks. “H–hi,”
