Chapter 11
I skipped down the stairs and ran through the living room to grab my boots. I tensed as a sudden hand appeared on my head, stopping me. “No running through the house, you’re going to hurt yourself.” River told me.
I shrugged off his hand and grabbed my boots, pulling them on. “Hey, I’m taking her out for dinner,” Dune announced, and River looked surprised.
“She’s going outside? Is there a bomb I don’t know about in the house?” Cross asked, and I flipped him off.
River sent me a sharp look, and I slowly lowered my finger while glaring at Cross.
“Can I go?” Fin piped up, and Dune quickly grabbed my shoulder, leading me towards the door.
“No, Raven promised to be nice for three hours, and I’m not letting any of you spoil it.” Dune announced, making me scowl.
“Three hours? How the hell –” Cross began, but Dune covered my ears and began singing Lisa loudly, pushing me out the door.
I laughed and looked at the vampire singing K–pop all the way to his car. “I wish I had that recorded,” I said while getting in.
Dune got in the driver’s side, looking like he wanted to say something before he changed his mind. “Are we going to Bob’s?” I asked curiously.
Bob’s was a small diner, and it was the only good place to eat around where we lived. Dune nodded and glanced at me, hesitating.
I sighed. “Just spit it out, you look constipated,”
Dune held the wheel loosely and glanced at me. “Did you really get into a fight?”
I glared in front of me and crossed my arms. “I knew you taking me out was too good to be true.”
Dune tapped his fingers along the wheel. “Did you?”
I groaned and smacked my head into the back of the seat. “No, I was just sitting there, and someone hit me,”
Dune made a sound of disbelief and I threw my hands into the air. “It’s true!” I snapped and glowered at him. “Forget your three hours, it’s not
happening.”
Dune looked at me as he parked. “Raven, is that seriously what happened?”
I unbuckled. “It doesn’t matter, because apparently you won’t believe me anyway.” I got out and slammed the car door, walking into the diner while he still began getting out of his car.
“Raven, wait, I really didn’t want us to fight-” I scoffed and smiled at the server.
“Table for one,” I told her and Dune made a sound in his throat. She chewed gum loudly as Dune stood next to me.
“Table for two,” he corrected.
I rolled my eyes. “Uh, no, I’ll be eating by myself, so I can enjoy my meal,” I told him.
The server sighed. “Look, I don’t care about your drama, just sit somewhere, okay? I don’t get paid enough to deal with this shit.”
I pointed at Dune with my thumb, not looking at him. “He’ll tip you well, and he’s paying for my meal, but we won’t be sitting together. So he’ll tip you well twice,”
Dune grabbed my shoulder in a sudden firm grip. “Show us to our table,” he said in such a commanding tone, the server nodded and motioned for a booth.
I huffed and sat down, crossing my arms. “Y’all want to drink?” The server asked.
I sighed. “Do you serve alcohol here?”
Dune growled my name and I rolled my eyes. “Lemonade is fine I guess,”

“Water is fine,” Dune said stiffly and the server walked off. The vampire looked at me in annoyance. “Alcohol?” He asked, staring me down
I shrugged my shoulders. “Cross let me,”
Dune rubbed his eyes. “Of course he did, and the waitress?”
I grinned. “She didn’t ask twice after Cross flirted with her,”
Dune rubbed his eyes and didn’t comment. I played with the salt and pepper aimlessly, feeling awkward.
“Excuse me,” a voice called and I looked up at a brown haired boy, “You’re Raven, from Malvin High?”
I nodded and ignored Dune’s glare of death. “Yeah,” I raised an eyebrow at the pretty boy with bed hair and a grin. “What’s it to you?”
He sent me a closed eye smile. “I just moved here, and I’m going to go there, I was wondering, if you could take a look at my homework and give me some tips?”
My eyebrows shot up. “Homework?”
He nodded and acted embarrassed, eyes flickering to Dune briefly. “Yes, one of the teachers decided to be a bitch and give me homework before I
even started the class.”
“Math,” I realized and nearly laughed. That evil teacher doesn’t know when to stop.
“Yeah,” he sent me a grin. “Will you take a look?” I looked the boy over. He was supernatural, if I had to guess, werewolf. Also, I was fairly certain he was just trying to get a reaction out of Dune.
Most supernatural don’t like vampires, which was the cause of a massacre fifty years ago, making vampires rare.
“Sure,” I said and stood.
“Raven, no,” Dune said, looking shocked at how easily I agreed. I paused and re thought my decision.
I looked around the restaurant and noticed another student, Faith, a popular girl. A true pretty girl, pretty on the outside, and on the inside. I grinned at my own reference and nodded at the girl.
“That’s Faith Turner, she’s at the top of our grade, I’m sure she could help you.” I told him and paused when I heard a scream.
A man waved a gun around. “Everybody to your feet!” He shouted. Dune stood and promptly stood in front of me, I narrowed my eyes at the man with the gun.
I shifted to see around Dune, wanting to see, and he growled deep in his throat, warning me.
“In a line! Give me ” he paused as I tripped on Dune’s foot and landed face first in front of the man with the gun. I looked up at him as he pointed the gun down at me.
“Hi,” I said and tilted my head to the side. “You know, there is a bank down the road, just saying.”
Everyone stared at me in shock.
Someone, a woman, started sobbing, and the robber turned to look at her. I jumped to my feet and barely heard Dune’s exclamation as I kicked the back of the man’s kneecap.
