Unable to confront those men, he vented his fury on me instead. “Say something!”
Ruth in my arms was startled awake by his movements and began crying loudly.
Jenny rushed over, positioning herself between William and me, reaching out to take the child.
She said, “Leila, you really did wrong this time. This cat doesn’t belong to you or William–it’s Bella’s! Even though she’s dead, the cat was still hers. What right do you have to dispose of it?”
Taking advantage of her distraction, I broke free from William’s grip.
Ryder, standing behind me, smoothly took the child from my
arms.
I said, “You’re right, this cat isn’t mine. But it’s living in my house now, and I’m the one paying for its food and care. So I have the right to decide what happens to it.”
Hearing this, William immediately pulled out his phone.
He grabbed my arm roughly. “Fine! I’m calling the police right now!”

As he spoke, he glanced at the men behind me. “What you did today amounts to breaking and entering! That cat is my property! I’m calling the police! I’m having you all thrown in jail!”
His hands trembled as he dialed the number.
Jenny stood beside him with her hands on her hips, cursing at me: “Do you know why William can’t stand living with you? It’s because you’re a heartless b*tch!”
I let out a cold laugh. It seemed they’d finally lost all patience with me.
Just as the call was about to connect, I said calmly, “Go ahead and call.”
At the same time, I pressed the fruit knife I’d prepared against the cat’s belly. “The moment you make that call, I’ll stab it to death.”
“Don’t!”
“No!”
William quickly threw down his phone, holding his hands up protectively in front of the cat.
He said. “I won’t call! Don’t hurt. don’t burt the cat! Leila, just calm down.”

Jenny’s face went pale, her body shaking uncontrollably.

She tentatively reached out toward me. “Please! I’m begging you, Leila, this is a living creature!”
The unconscious cat seemed to sense the danger.
It slowly opened its eyes and began struggling violently.
But soon enough, with its limbs bound tight, its entire body was flipped over, belly up, chest completely exposed to my view.
William was utterly shocked and dropped to his knees with a
thud.
