Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Charlotte’s POV

Something about that lady seemed extremely suspicious, I was unsure if it was her zeal and sudden willingness to help me out. Everything was weird to me, I wanted to be positive about her but at the s time, she showed some signs that often got me wondering whether her and Adrian knew each other from somewhere.
I clutched the champagne glass tight to my hand before sneaking a glance at Adrian. His eyes were fixated on his laptop. I tried to stick my head into his laptop but he was too quick to avert to move the screen of his laptop elsewhere and shoot dagger glares at me.
“What do you think you are doing?” Adrian snapped

an irritated look plastered on his face.
Ever since the night where he had been publicly embarrassed by Elena and her husband, Adrian has held a grudge against me since then.
“I do not know. Maybe monitoring you just to make sure you are not hitting on some other random girl?” I snapped at Adrian with a disgusted look on my face.
Adrian choked out a hysteric laughter and shook his head in utter disdain at me.
“You are so fucking naive Charlotte. You believe some stupid stranger over me?” He spat at me bitterly.
I rolled my eyes at him.
“There was proof, how do you explain that? Uhh?”
Adrian sighed heavily.
“Those pictures were not real, nothing was real Charlotte. I do
I do not even have the time to go around cheating on you.” He said with a serious look on his face.

Adrian threw his hands in the air. “Go ahead and think whatever you like Charlotte, keep wasting your time on irrelevant stuffs while I waste my time making money for us.” He snapped at me, returning his gaze back to his laptop screen.
I suddenly thought of Elena’s words back at the restaurant, I needed to steal Adrian’s phone but I had no clue on how to get it. I mean Adrian was so overprotective with his personal stuffs, he never let me have a close look at any of his gadgets.
Although regardless of it all, I was determined. I found myself trusting a total stranger more than I trusted Adrian.
“How is the company doing?” I asked, trying to get him distracted. His phone was on the centre table, a few inches away from me. I just had to completely have Adrian’s attention on some random stuff for me to hastily grab the phone.
“Why do you suddenly care?” Adrian raised a brow at me, not even bothering to spare me a single glance.
I sighed heavily and rubbed my temple in frustration. These days he had become increasingly annoying to me. It made me wonder why I had fallen for him in the first place, perhaps it was because we were almost alike. We had the same goals and we were business–minded, willing to do anything to reach our targets.
“Why do you make me owe you an explanation for every single thing?” I snapped at him.
Adrian shrugged. “I do not know, you do the exact same thing to me too.” He fired back.
I scoffed at him and eyed him in disdain.
“I just want to know how the company is fairing. As a matter of fact, I deserve to know since it is our company and not just yours.” I said, empahsizing the
word “Our”

I nodded my
head in agreement. “You are right.” I muttered.
“Although, so far so good.” He said.
I rose to my feet and excused myself to the kitchen. Perhaps a drink of alcohol wet his mind off everything. Even better, he could fall asleep and i
would have access to both his phone and his laptop. Double win for me.
I smirked as I poured him a glass of whiskey into the champagne glass. My hands reached for the cupboard, I opened it widely and took out a whitish

I poured myself a glass of whiskey too and walked back into the living room. Adrian was still busy working on his laptop. I dropped his champagne glass. on the table and proceeded to rub his shoulders gently. “Are you okay?” I whispered softly into his ears,
“Yeah, like I said, just working.” He said in a bored tone.
Adrian slowly tried to push my hands off his shoulder but I was not tetting him have his

All of a sudden, a beeping noise came from his laptop, it startled me for a second. I watched message.
A few minutes passed by, causing the atmosphere to become tensed.
“What the hell?” Adrian suddenly yelled, startling me.

He jerked off the chair and began to pace the room. I took it as a hint to sneakily snatch his phone from the table and toss it into my jeans pocket.
“What in the actual hell?” Adrian yelled again as he picked up his laptop to get a closer look at the screen.
I was getting more confused as I watched him throw a tantrum. He dropped the laptop carelessly on the table and muttered a cuss under his breath.
“Adrian, what is going on?” I had to ask. It looked like he was beginning to lose his mind.
“Someone just bought eighty percent of the company’s shares.”
