Chapter 44
Chapter 44
That night, Sebastian stood in the darkened study, his gaze fixed on the opposite room. The maids were still bustling about, their movements visible through the dimness. He watched until midnight, when Yasmine finally entered her room and closed the curtains,
Sebastian waited a few more seconds, until the lights across went out. Then he switched ort his desk lamp.
Just as he turned, there was a soft knock on the door. “Mr. Zimmerman,” Truman whispered, “we’ve got new intet on Mrs. Zimmerman from the black
market”
“Come in,” Sebastian said, his voice low.
Truman slipped inside and handed him the folder.
“When did this arrive?” Sebastian asked.
Truman didn’t even get a chance to take a good look and just replied, checking his watch, “Five minutes ago. They said there’s something new.”
Sebastian flipped through the report, and his expression soured. 15 million dollars all for three absurd details added to Yasmine’s pristine record. She won a 30–million–dollar lottery, bought a mansion, paid in full, and now she won Hayden’s heart.
Every detail was laughable and outdated. The black market should have better intel than this–unless it was intentional.
Sebastian’s eyes narrowed. “Who’s running the black market now?”
Truman hesitated and said, “Hayden Guzman.”
Sebastian tossed the folder onto the floor in disgust. It landed with a thud, the pages splayed open. The third detail seemed like a bad joke.
“Won Hayden’s heart?” Sebastian said with a cold look. “Nice try.”
He thought, ‘So this is their game–charging 15 million to show how Yasmine and he are in love? Classy.‘
He turned back to the darkened windows, his jaw tight. “Get Nathan over here. Now.”
When Nathan stumbled in, dragged by Truman, he was plastered. He reeked of booze and was tossed unceremoniously in front of Sebastian.
His eyes were still hazy, but he managed to figure out who was standing there. After a loud burp, he mumbled, “Sebastian, it’s the middle of the night. What’s the deal?”
Sebastian gave him a hard look. “Do you remember what you promised me?”

Nathan had a little secret that Sebastian had got a hold of. Even when he was drunk, that was enough to sober him up. Hearing this, Nathan’s mind cleared in an instant. He scrambled to his feet, grinning sheepishly. “What do you need, boss?”
“Find out if there are any other information networks in Beliston besides the ones controlled by Hayden’s black market.”
Hayden’s name rang a bell, but Nathan was way too drunk to think straight. The thought flickered and vanished. He pointed at himself, bewildered. “Me?”
Sebastian looked disgusted. “You’re hopeless.”
Nathan blinked, confused. “Sebastian, you can rag on me all you want, but don’t diss my skills.”
If it weren’t for the flush on Nathan’s face, Sebastian might have bought his act. He scoffed. “Did you find any designers
as
good as Ace yet?”

Nathan shook his head. “Not yet.”
Sebastian raised an eyebrow. “So you’re hopeless?”
Nathan sighed. “Sebastian, even if I messed up tonight, you don’t have to be so harsh. What’s up? Who got under your skin?”
