Chapter 40
The noise was so loud it made Mandy wince, and even Yasmine looked taken aback.
But the grand gesture wasn’t over yet. In perfect unison, the group dropped to one knee and shouted again. “Welcome home, Ms. Gurrean The scho seemed to rattle the very air.
Yasmine glanced up at Hayden, who was lounging against the staircase, and rolled her eyes with a resigned sigh. Clearly, he’d seen her get up early to put on that little act and decided to go all out to make her look even more impressive.
Hayden, with a smug grin, arched an eyebrow, practically begging for a compliment.
Outside the villa, Mandy stood there, agape, watching everything. ‘No way. Well, she must rent this place, she thought. ‘And those people–maybe they are hired actors, playing along to sabotage Sebastian and Ashley’s engagement party!
As the realization hit her, Mandy stormed inside, shouting, “Yasmine! Where did you get all this money?”
The moment Mandy burst in, Yasmine gave Hayden a quick, meaningful look. He nodded and slipped away. After all, the staff here were all longtime servants of the Guzman family, who had always been taking care of Yasmine. With them around, he felt completely at ease.
Yasmine watched Hayden leave, then turned back to Mandy, who’d stormed in, red–faced and furious. “Lucky break,” she said shrugging “I hit the lottery.”
“How much?” Mandy blurted out, almost involuntarily.
“Just 300 million,” Yasmine replied, nonchalantly.
“You’re lying,” Mandy spat. “The biggest jackpot here is 3 million!”
“Guess I’m just that lucky,” Yasmine said, her eyes wide and innocent. “Bought ten tickets, each one hit 3 million. Problem?”
Mandy’s words died in her throat. ‘Lies! Every single one of them!‘
“Yasmine, what are you even trying to pull?” Mandy demanded. “You couldn’t even keep a baby, and you think you can keep Sebastian? You really believe all these tricks–running away, playing games–will make him stay? Get real!”
In the next moment, Yasmine grabbed Mandy’s wrist, her eyes turning cold and sharp. “What did you say?”
Mandy winced in pain, trying to pull her hand free. Yasmine looked so slight and frail, yet her grip was incredibly strong, almost as if she had an iron fist. Mandy’s bones ached under the pressure.
Infuriated, Mandy shouted, “I said–get real!”
“Not that part,” Yasmine snapped. She became fierce all of a sudden.
Mandy felt a shiver run down her spine under Yasmine’s piercing gaze and stammered, “Y–You couldn’t even keep a baby?”
“You knew?” Yasmine pressed, her eyes narrowing.
“Did you leave those medical records around on purpose, just to make Sebastian feel guilty?” Mandy’s voice snapped back to its usual, bossy tone, like she’d never lost control at all.
‘Why am I even intimidated by Yasmine? She’s just some orphan with no real family–what gives her the nerve to even talk back?‘ Mandy thought. She sneered, “Let me tell you something. It doesn’t matter whether you keep the baby or not. Sebastian will marry Ashley anyway.
“People like you are just born to be nothing, and any kid you have will be the same. Even if you do have that baby, it’ll just be another rat, living in the gutter.
