Chapter 39
Yasmine stayed calm, despite the hostility. “If I’m not mistaken, those missing dresses of yours were sent to the dry cleaners in the wet side. And i jewelry? It’s under her bed.”
“You think I’d buy that?” Mandy retorted without missing a beat.
Yasmine just looked at her. Same old story. Mandy never believed her. No matter how many times it happened three or four times a month shed always accuse Yasmine of being a thief.
The first time it happened, Yasmine had cried in her room, feeling wronged. She tracked down the dress through the security footage, then ran through the rain to retrieve it. But instead of an apology, Mandy accused her of renting it out for some shady profit
After several times, Yasmine stopped caring. She just quietly retrieved the dresses and put them back in the closet whenever Mandy made a fuss. Every time, it just ended there.
Sarah was just like her mother–moody and spoiled, leaving her things scattered everywhere. Yasmine had lost count of how many times she’d crawled around on the floor, searching for items lost in the corners.
And for what? Not a word of thanks. Instead, Sarah accused her of trying to sell those forgotten jewels behind her back.
Yasmine finally realized that if she didn’t hold herself in high regard, no one else would either. But luckily, it wasn’t too late for her to get it.
With a hint of scorn in her eyes, Yasmine said, “Then go ahead and call the police.”
Mandy’s frown deepened. Staring at Yasmine, she felt something was off. Before, Yasmine would look scared and beg to be believed whenever Mandy said this. But today she was so different.
Mandy took another close look at Yasmine–her face was the same, but her eyes were different. Once, they were gentle and scft, but now they were cold and piercing. Every expression was unsettling, making Mandy’s skin crawl.
“Are you really not afraid?” Mandy asked again.
“Why would I be?” Yasmine replied with a casual smile. “At worst, tomorrow’s headlines will be all about how Sebastian’s ex got framed to make way for
his mistress.”
“So you just want to ruin Sebastian and Ashley’s engagement party?” Mandy asked, thinking she’d figured out Yasmine’s plan, her chest heaving with
anger.
She’d figured out Yasmine’s plan.
Mandy was stunned and thought, ‘Not trying to ruin the engagement party? Then what for?”
“I’m just moving in next door to you guys,” Yasmine said.
That was even more shocking than any plan to crash the engagement party. Mandy blinked in disbelief. “Impossible! You’re broke!”
Yasmine had been with the Zimmerman family for three years, her paychecks all but controlled by Mandy. The villas here were far too expensive for someone in her position, and no one rented out their homes here. So Mandy didn’t believe Yasmine could afford this place.
“I was broke when I was with you,” Yasmine said, shrugging. “But things change. I just got
rich.”
She then pointed to a villa down the street. “That’s my new place, Mrs. Zimmerman. Remember the address–wou want the police showing up at the wrong house, huh?”
With that, Yasmine walked away, leaving Mandy staring after her, stunned.
By the time Mandy came to her senses, Yasmine was already inside her new home. On a whim, Mandy followed.
