Betrayed, Broken 7

Betrayed, Broken 7

Chapter 7

Before Alex could recover from the shock of losing Star, the county jail called.

Sophia wanted to see him.

Alex carefully tucked away the medical report, as he definitely had questions for Emma.

Through the glass partition, Sophia had lost her usual polished beauty, though she’d cleaned up for Alex’s visit.

The oversized prison uniform made her look even more fragile and pitiful.

The moment she saw Alex, tears fell. “Alex, why didn’t you visit me? I missed you so much. I’m so scared here alone. When will you take me away?”

Alex sat in the chair, facing Sophia again.

But his mind was filled with Emma’s desperate eyes from that day.

Alex stated, “Sophia, Emma was pregnant. It was a girl.”

The moment Alex spoke, Sophia’s eyes darkened briefly.

She quickly forced a smile. “Congratulations, Alex! You’re going to be a father. I’ll have to be the child’s godmother.”

Alex’s smile was strained. “Yep. A pregnant woman’s emotions are important. I can’t visit you for now.”

Sophia’s smile twitched, but she nodded. “When I get out, Alex, I’ll congratulate Emma in person.”

Alex said nothing more and left.

In his car, he lit a cigarette.

Emma had given him access to the home surveillance system.

He opened his phone and waited quietly until the housekeeper entered Emma’s room ten minutes later, furtively mixing

several pills into the vitamins by the bedside.

Alex crushed his cigarette and immediately spoke to his security team on standby, “Go in now. Tie her up in the

basement.”

When Alex returned, the housekeeper’s face was unrecognizable.

“Who ordered you to do this?” Alex played with his lighter, dangerous emotions churning in his eyes.

The housekeeper trembled in terror, confessing everything, “It was Miss Wells. She called and told me to mix birth control

pills into Miss Carter’s daily vitamins.”

Alex asked, “What else?”

“Miss Wells also had me steal Lily’s ashes and dump them in the litter box. That day, she also told me to tell you Miss Carter was faking her illness. Mr. Sterling, I was just blinded by money for a moment. I never meant to harm Miss Carter.”

“Is that so?” Alex laughed coldly.

He gestured. “Don’t kill her. No limit on her medical bills.”

The housekeeper screamed in terror before being silenced.

Alex sat in Emma’s bedroom where she’d taken nothing with her, as if she’d just gone grocery shopping and would return any moment, yet he knew Emma would never come back.

He opened the medical report, reading it over and over while sitting by the bed all night, his expression growing

increasingly dark.
