Chapter 6
One of the police said, “You broke things, so you must pay for them. If you refuse, come with us to the station.”
At that moment, Clarice’s girlfriends finally panic.
“Officer, this is all a misunderstanding!”
“Yeah, we just came to help them patch things up. Breaking stuff wasn’t our intention.”
“Clarice, say something! We only smashed things because you told us to. You said you’d take responsibility.”
‘That’s right, Clarice! You can’t make us take the fall for this.”
Clarice’s face darkened. She turned and questioned me coldly, “Daniel, do you really have to take t this far?”
just gave her a cold smile silently.
Wasn’t she the one who married Baron and also the person who told her friend to destroy my place and now she blames me? It seemed that six years of putting up with her nonsense made her feel brave and more outrageous.
Too bad, though, because my forgiveness came from love and without love, she was just a stranger to me. Obviously, I never showed mercy to strangers.
When she saw I wasn’t budging, Clarice turned to the three police officers once more. Actually,
e and I are a couple. We were just having a fight and I asked them to mediate.”
Yes, exactly!”
Officers, we’re innocent. Really.”
Her girlfriends quickly nod in agreement.
The officers turned to me.
pulled out my marriage certificate composedly. “I’m already married and she also registered hers this morning. How can two legally married people claim to be in a relationship? She’s clearly lying.”
‘You!”
Clarice pointed at me in fury,
‘Enough,” one of the three officers said. “If you have anything else to say, save it for the station.” At the station, as I firmly demanded compensation, Clarice’s girlfriends immediately turned on
ner.
‘We only broke things because you told us to. If anyone’s paying, it’s you!”
‘Yeah, don’t expect us to take the fall for this!”
‘Clarice, we’re close, but don’t expect us to pay for your mess!”
‘You all…” Clarice’s face turned ashen.
I chuckled coldly to myself. So much for so–called loyal friends. When it was time to eat, drink and party, they were quick to show up. When trouble hit, they were even quicker to cut ties.
Chapter 6
7:48 pm D D
Clarice can’t blame anyone but herself. She chose her friends poorly. Or… it was possible that birds of a feather flock together. Anyone who befriended these women was not a good person.
Realizing that I had loved a woman like this for six whole years made my stomach turn.
“Hmph! I’ll pay. I don’t need any of you!” Clarice turned to me and spat coldly, “Fine, how much?”
“Let’s see!” I said.
I pulled out my phone, tallied everything and smiled. “It was fifteen thousand and seventy–five dollars. I’ll even waive the seventy–five dollars for you. You’ll just have to pay fifteen thousand dollars.”
Clarice froze, then exclaimed, “How can it be that much?”
respond coldly, “Too much? The floor, dining table, sofa, wall and kitchen … do you want me tc ist everything one by one?”
When we bought and furnished this place, she never contributed a dime, never even asked about he details. Of course, she thought they only cost less than fifteen thousand dollars. However, I Scrimped and saved every cent of that money alone.
Fifteen thousand dollars. Not a cent less!” I gave my final ultimatum with a hard tone.
Clarice glared at me hatefully and said, “Fine! It’s just fifteen thousand dollars, right? I’ll pay!”
She turned to Baron and said, “I only have one thousand and five hundred dollars on me. You cover the remaining thirteen thousand and five hundred dollars.”
Baron looked embarrassed and said, “Clarice, I don’t have that much.”
Clarice froze. “What do you mean you don’t have money? I give you seven thousand and five
undred dollars each month! Don’t tell me you spent it all?”
