Chapter 7
1 left New York quietly with the Thorne family’s escort.
Two days later, I met my future husband for the first time–Asher Thorne, heir to the Thorne empire.
He wore an impeccably tailored black suit, exuding elegance and handsome authority,
Though seated in a wheelchair with a light blanket covering his legs, his posture remained commanding and his shoulders broad and strong,
His disability seemed almost irrelevant in his powerful presence,
“Kristin Bennett,” his deep voice rolling over my name.
I took a steadying breath and stepped forward, then slowly knelt in front of him.
Our eyes met.
I must have looked incredibly nervous and shy. In his deep eyes, I caught my reflection–a small figure with fluttering eyelashes.
Gathering my courage, I reached out and gently took his hand resting atop the blanket.
“Mr. Thorne, hello. I’m Kristín Bennett.”
The moment I touched him, I heard sharp gasps around us.
But my nerves made me oblivious, I even gripped his hands tighter.
Asher didn’t pull away.

Just as my breathing became almost impossible from nervousness, Asher suddenly turned his hands and enclosed mine completely in his warm grip.
“Kristin, wheel me back to my room.”
I quickly stood, stumbling slightly as I rose.
Asher immediately reached out, steadying me with a firm hand on my waist. “Careful.”
He let go as soon as I was balanced, but my cheeks were already burning.
I murmured a soft “Okay,” took the wheelchair from a servant and pushed him into the bedroom.
The door closed behind us. Warm lights came on.
Asher glanced at me, then gestured to his legs.

His lips might have curved slightly–or perhaps I imagined it.
“My legs don’t work well. Looks like I’ll need you tonight.”
I kept my head down, unable to meet his eyes and just nodded slightly.
I reached up to touch my earlobe nervously, only to find my skin burning hot beneath my fingers….
