I got a call from Natalie…
She told me Lawrence had snatched a major project from the Thorne family, causing some problems for Asher’s company recently.
I thought about Asher’s unusual late nights at the office but felt skeptical.
Though both Lawrence and Asher were standouts among their peers, but Lawrence wasn’t on Asher’s level. Not to mention the Thorne empire had far deeper resources than the Castros.
I couldn’t believe Lawrence could actually impact Asher’s business.
But Natalie’s next words made me uncertain.
Rumor had it Lawrence found a loophole in the Thorne business and used media manipulation to affect the stock price.
Beyond Lawrence, one of the senior executives at Thorne Page Foster who didn’t get along with Asher was also taking shots.
After hanging up, my chest felt heavy. Not painful, but uncomfortably tight.
I’d had to hear this news from my friend, not my husband.
Asher must have kept it from me to avoid worrying me.
That evening when Asher came home, I planned to ask him about it. But he went straight to his study, only returning to our bedroom late at night.
Hearing him enter, I sat up quickly. “You‘
done for the night?”
“Yes,” he looked visibly exhausted. “I need to travel for a few days tomorrow.”
I moved closer to massage his temples. “I’ll pack your suitcase for you.”
He closed his eyes and murmured a soft “Mm.”
The room fell silent.
After finishing the massage, I took his hand and asked softly, “I’ve heard some rumors lately. I’m not sure if they’re true. Is part of this business crisis because of Lawrence?”
Asher studied my face.
The warm light from above cast shadows across his forehead, his eyes remained dark and penetrating.
“Not exactly,” he answered.
“There’s been a small issue, but it’s not because of Lawrence. His little tricks can’t hurt the company. I’m just cleaning out some parasites from the company.”

He cupped my cool cheek, his thumb brushing over my skin. “Of course, silly you. You really think Lawrence Castro has what it takes to shake the Thorne family?”
Of course not. The answer came instantly in my mind.
The Thorne empire had weathered countless storms to reach its current position.
This was merely a small bump in the road, just get through it.
“Got it.” I felt relieved, my tone lightening. “Want me to help you shower?”
I’d assumed he’d be too tired for anything else tonight, so I was just being playful.
To my surprise, Asher seemed quite interested. “Sure. I’ll leave it to you tonight, Mrs. Thorne.”
