Chapter 21
Four months after marrying Asher Thorne, I finally reunited with my brother and sister.
They’d both grown taller, looking healthy and vibrant.
They rushed into my arms the moment they saw me, crying their hearts out.
Eden looked at me with red–rimmed eyes. “Sis, don’t worry. When I grow up, I’ll protect you. You won’t have to be scared of anything.”
This seventeen–year–old boy was trying to shield me with his still–slender shoulders.
Olive nuzzled against my hair. “Me too, sis. I’ll protect you too.”
Dave had always used my siblings to control my life. Now Asher had helped them escape his grip.
I no longer had to worry about their situation or fear losing contact with them. No more worrying that Dave would punish them for my disobedience.
After catching up, I brought them to meet Asher.
The kids were clearly intimidated by him, eyes downcast as they called him “brother–in–law.”
Asher noticed their discomfort and excused himself, leaving the three of us alone.
For the next few days, Asher was rarely home. I took Eden and Olive sightseeing and shopping.
Olive loved crafts, so I learned alongside her.
I hand–made two ceramic dolls–a male figure in a suit and a female in a white dress.
I placed them right at the entrance of the bedroom, where Asher would see them the moment he walked in.
Just thinking about his reaction made me secretly happy.
