The butler relayed my refusal to Lawrence.
But he still refused to leave, insisting on seeing me.
Lawrence waited outside all night. I never gave in.
Finally desperate, he asked our butler to deliver his gifts. I refused those too.
In the end, Lawrence left a new Jewelry Box at our front gate.
I didn’t even look at it, instructing our staff to get rid of it. The jewelry inside was donated to a Los Angeles charity foundation.
At least Lawrence did some good.
For nearly two months after that, I heard nothing about him.
Until Natalie mentioned him again.
She said his parents had dragged him back to New York. Back in New York, they kept him under house arrest for two weeks, only releasing him the previous week.
Even now, his movements were monitored to prevent him from sneaking back to Los Angeles.
A few days earlier, Lawrence had overheard someone trashing my reputation and started a fistfight with them.
Not only that, he also used the opportunity to clear up a lot of the rumors about me.
Since my departure, my reputation in New York had slowly started to recover.
Hearing this, all I felt was a bitter sense of irony.
So Lawrence had always known how much those rumors hurt me. He just hadn’t cared enough to address them.
He’d even joined in when his buddies talked trash about me.
My reputation wouldn’t have been half as bad if he hadn’t stayed silent.
But that was all in the past now.
My thoughts were fully occupied with tomorrow’s excitement.
Tonight, my brother and sister would be flying in from England to visit me in Los Angeles.
