Corey stood frozen long after the call ended.
Finally, he took a deep breath and walked back into the room to relay my words to Lawrence.
Lawrence’s expression didn’t change, but his grip on the glass tightened until his knuckles went white.
Corey felt sweat bead down his back.
“Mr. Castro… maybe she’s just playing hard to get.”
“Hard to get?” Lawrence smiled coldly.
Corey lowered his head, barely breathing.
In the next second, Lawrence kicked over the coffee table.

Glass shattered everywhere.
Everyone snapped their heads around, the room silent enough to hear a hair drop.
Lawrence let out a cold laugh. “So she thinks she can play games with me now? Fine. Let’s see how long she can keep it up.”
He turned to Corey with a menacing look. “Where are the things she sent?”
Corey’s head dropped lower. “Miss Pinto happened to see the box and… she threw it away. I didn’t stop her since… well, since
she’s about to be your fiancée.”
Lawrence stared at him, his eyes ice–cold. “Well done, Corey. Well fucking done.”
Corey nearly fell to his knees. “Sir… I’m so sorry. It won’t happen again.”
Someone tried to smooth things over. “Why waste anger on an assistant? Besides, Viola did you a favor getting rid of Kristin’s stuff. Less drama for you.”
“Exactly. If you’d kept it, Kristin would’ve had an excuse to come crying back.”
“Come on. Even without the stuff, she’ll still come running back. Five years with Lawrence? Everyone knows she can’t live
without him.”
“This is just another tactic–playing hard to get to make him chase her.”
Nobody questioned this assessment. They all thought this was exactly what I would do.
After all, they’d seen similar scenes play out countless times over the past five years.
Lawrence gave Corey one last frigid glance. “Get out.”
He’d always despised people making decisions for him. Corey was getting presumptuous.

Corey didn’t dare say another word and quickly left the room.
Sensing Lawrence’s foul mood, everyone else made their excuses and departed.
Lawrence leaned back on the couch, alcohol buzzing through him and closed his eyes.
His friends were right. Kristin loved him too much. She needed him. She would never let him marry Viola without a fight.
No matter what she said today, she’d definitely show up tomorrow, trying every trick to sabotage it.
She was miserable in the Bennett house, and he was her only lifeline.
If she had any sense at all, she’d come crawling back by tomorrow at the latest.
The thought eased the knot in Lawrence’s chest.
As if she showed up, maybe he’d give her an easy way out for the sake of their five years together.
