After ending the call, I walked back to the bed with my phone.
Asher took it and tossed it onto the couch.
His arm slid around my waist, warm breath grazing my neck and cheek. His long fingers traced the soft skin at my waist, sending a ticklish shiver through me.
I instinctively tried to squirm away, but he held me tighter.
“Kristin, you should know it’s pretty rude to answer an unimportan call in the middle of a kiss.”
I’d been by Asher’s side these past few days. He said that since we’d soon be officially married, we should get comfortable with intimacy.
So each night before bed, we embraced, kissed and say goodnight.
Life here was nothing like I’d feared. Asher wasn’t the volatile and ruthless man the rumors described.
On the contrary, he was kind to me–treated everyone well. Our bond had been growing stronger by the day.
I’d also managed to contact my siblings in England. They were safe and their lives hadn’t been disrupted at all.
Asher promised that after our wedding, my brother Eden and sister Olive would be free to live their own lives, beyond Dave and my stepmother’s control.
I couldn’t wait for that day.
Asher had been so good to me, and I’d decided to be a good wife in return.
Thinking of this, I wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed a soft kiss to his lips.
“Is this better, Mr. Thorne?”
“Just one kiss, Kristin?” he teased.
Fighting my shyness, I kissed his cheek, then his jaw, and finally his throat.
When my lips touched his Adam’s apple, his body tensed. I felt it jump under my kiss.
“Good girl, that’s not enough.”
He took control then, tilting my chin up and kissing me deeply.
This kiss was different from all our previous ones. It was heavier and deeper–as if he wanted to consume me.
I felt every reaction of his body against mine. But I was completely lost in him, my knees weak and my head spinning.
The people I’d left behind in New York were completely forgotten. My whole world narrowed to this man.

When he finally pulled back, his voice was rough and husky. “It’s late. Go get some sleep.”
“Goodnight, Kristin.”
I stood up from his lap and straightened my rumpled clothes.
I whispered a soft “Goodnight,” then walked out of his room.

My room was right next to Asher’s. As I lay down, the thought of my future husband just a wall away made me feel incredibly
safe.
I closed my eyes and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
