Chapter 99
Rebeccaana held onto Rebecca tightly, reluctant to let go. Her eyes welled up in tears as she eyed Chris and begged, “Daddy, can Pretty Aunt stay with
me tonight?”
“No, Dad will accompany you tonight.” Chris refused sternly.
“But I don’t want you to accompany me tonight. I just want Pretty Aunt! Why can’t you let her stay?” Rebeccaana refuted, frowning at her father’s refusal.
Affliction flickered in Chris’s eyes as his daughter’s words rang in his ear. Despite his efforts, Rebeccaana never recognized him as her father whenever Rebecca was around, and the things he had built for her went unacknowledged.
“If Dad doesn’t want to let Pretty Aunt stay in the Imperial Garden, then I’ll go to her house,” Rebeccaana added arrogantly, pushing Chris’s button further.
“Rebeccaana, do you even know where she lives?” Chris bellowed in disdain.
Tongue–tied, Rebeccaana lowered her head and couldn’t find words to retaliate. Her stubborn and headstrong nature resembled Rebecca. No wonder Chris was having difficulty dealing with her.
At this moment, Rebecca was torn between her heart’s desire to be with her daughter and her responsibilities. She had to go to work tomorrow, and if she stayed, she would have to work overtime to revise her designs and change her clothes. It was very inconvenient for her to stay in the Imperial
Garden.
However, if she refused Rebeccaana directly, it would leave scars on the child’s heart, and she couldn’t bear being hated by her child. After weighing things over, Rebecca had a careful consideration that would neither offend Chris nor make Rebeccaana glum.
With an amiable smile, Rebecca scooped up her daughter and coaxed, “Rebeccaana, how about I will stay for a moment and read a bedtime story with you? I promise, I won’t leave until you fall asleep.”
“Why do you have to leave?” Rebeccaana asked, pursing her lips into a frown.
“Because I have to work overtime tonight to revise my design, and if I don’t make it right, my boss will scold me when I go to the company tomorrow,” Rebecca explained patiently.
Rebeccaana thought for a while, then tilted her head and asked, “Does overtime mean the same as students doing homework?”
“Yes! Rebeccaana is really smart.” Rebecca replied dotingly.
Rebeccaana pouted cutely and immediately became a sensible and obedient little angel as she chittered, “Alright then, I’ll listen to Pretty Aunt.” “Rebeccaana is really a good girl.” Rebecca soothed. She leaned forward and kissed her daughter’s face as she carried Rebeccaana upstairs. As soon as they arrived at Rebeccaana’s room, Rebecca prepared her clothes and reminded Rebecca to take a bath first.
“Take a shower first, then I’ll tell the story, okay?” Rebecca hummed.
“Okay!” Rebeccaana sang as she went inside the bathroom.
It was a heartwarming sight to see the mother and daughter engaged in conversation and laughter. However, Chris’s frustration boiled over as he slammed his fist on the wine cooler.
Two hours later, Rebeccaana finally fell asleep in Rebecca’s arms. She leaned in with a tender gaze and softly pecked a kiss on her daughter’s forehead, making up the days she wasn’t by her side.
“Good night, my little one,” Rebecca mumbled softly.
Upon ensuring Rebeccaana was sound asleep, Rebecca reluctantly left the bedroom with a heavy heart and walked downstairs carefully.
Meanwhile, Chris was seated in the living room as if waiting for someone. Upon hearing footsteps from the stairs, he cocked his head and darted at Rebecca sternly.
Under her gaze, Rebecca shuddered as she averted her gaze and slotted in, “Rebeccaana fell asleep. Since there’s nothing else for me to do. I’ll go back

Chapter 99
When Rebecca was about to walk to the door, she suddenly realized a problem. It was already late, and taking a taxi in a suburban area during the day would be a pain in the neck. Moreover, it would be a waste of time and unsafe for her to walk back to the city in the middle of the right. She needed to come up with a different solution.
Out of sorts, Rebecca bit the corner of her mouth as she gazed at Chris. She lowered her posture and pleaded, “Mr. Evans, it’s tough to take a tax now. Could you please send a driver to send me home? Thank you.”
“The driver is off work.” Chris coldly refused.
Under the dazzing crystal chandelier, Rebecca’s limbs jellied as shame crept over her face. She bit her lower lip and after a few seconds of silence. she bravely asked, “Can you lend me a car? I’ll definitely return it at noon tomorrow.”
Rebecca was about to say something, but Chris’s cold and ill–tempered voice cut her words off, saying, and “Even if my car is safe the next day, I’m unwilling to lend it to you.”
Rebecca’s face paled as she felt ashamed of Chris’s refusal. She wanted to laugh at herself for being naive to believe that Chris would lend her a hand, but her hopes crumbled.
Fortunately, Rebecca only asked Chris to send her off, or else she’d bear this humiliation all her life. “Mr. Evans, aren’t you being unfair?” Rebecca mocked.
“What do you mean?” Chris asked impatiently.
Rebecca let out a heavy sigh, suppressing the ache in her heart as she fought to keep–her emotion at bay.
After a while, she lifted her head, and his calm eyes were like still water. She said, “Mr. Evans, you brought me to the Imperial Garden. Shouldn’t you be responsible for taking me back?”
Upon hearing this, Chris rose from the sofa. His eyes glinted with anger and contempt as he snarled, “Rebecca, are you trying to negotiate with me?”
“It’s reasonable.” Rebecca retorted, neither in humble nor arrogant manner.
Chris stepped forward, intimidation exuded in his aura as his words grated out, “You think you’ve found a decent job, the reason why you dare to negotiate with me? How many digits do you have in your account?”
Rebecca had no intention of arguing and just wanted to solve the problem. She calmed her nerves and instead uttered, “If Mr. Evans really doesn’t want to send me back, then I’ll sleep here tonight.”
After saying this, she sprinted to the living room and sat on the sofa. When she saw Chris approaching her, Rebecca raised her brow and spat, “I don’t want to sleep in the bedroom. Instead, I’ll just sleep on the sofa.”
Rebecca was reclining on the couch, facing away from Chris. “Mr/Evans, it’s getting late now, and I need to rest. To prevent any rumors, you should also head upstairs to sleep. I hope you have a good night’s sleep.”
With his mouth set into a grim line, Chris did not expect Rebecca to become shameless. The more he thought about it, the angrier he became.
“Get up and don’t dirty my sofa,” Chris growled as he pulled Rebecca down.
Rebecca almost fell, but she was not angry. She stood firm, looked straight into Chris’s enraged eyes, and mocked, “Mr. Evans, you mean you agree to send a driver to take me back, don’t you?”
“Butler!” Chris roared.
The butler approached respectfully and asked,” Mr. Evans, what can I do for you?”
“Find someone to send this woman off right away. I don’t want to see her face again!” Chris commanded, his nerves seething.
Rebecca heaved a sigh of relief as she lowered her eyes and sneered at the corner of her mouth. “Chris, one day I’ll make you look at me with admiration.”
