Chapter 28
‘My daughter doesn’t need a woman who just got out of prison.” Chris pinched Rebecca’s chin going close to her, “Be clear of who you are, your presence will only bring shame to my daughter.”
The word shame was like a sharp sword plunging directly into the heart, causing it to bleed profusely. Rebecca’s face turned deathly white, and she stood frozen in a state of self–doubt, unable to speak due to the pain in her throat.
Just as Chris had said, she was a woman with a “criminal record” and a cleaner with no status, while Rebeccaana was the daughter of the Evans family. With such a huge disparity in status, would Rebeccaana even recognize her?
When Chris saw her pained expression, he let go of his hand in satisfaction.
‘Leaving is your best choice. If you insist on staying, your future will not be easy.”
Rebecca tightly tugged at the corner of her clothes. She understood the underlying meaning behind Chris’s words and knew the extent of his methods. But in order to see Rebeccaana, she was willing to endure any hardship.
‘I’m not leaving. New York City is my home. I’m not going anywhere.”
Chris turned around indifferently. He wasn’t angered by Rebecca stubbornness. Instead, he found
her attitude foolish.
‘Don’t think that by staying in New York City, you’ll be able to see Rebeccaana. Without my permission, don’t even think about approaching my daughter in your life.”
‘Chris Evans, you’re being unreasonable,” Rebecca panicked and called him by his whole name for the first time with continuing further, “Rebeccaana is my own daughter.”
Chris’s sharp gaze pierced through her ears once again which he said four years ago.
“You’re not worthy,”
Those three familiar words hit Rebecca hard, and she almost lost control and cried out.
“What do I need to do to see Rebeccaana? Do you want me to kneel down and beg you?”

With a thud, she knelt on the ground without hesitation, showing extreme humility. “Okay, I’ll kneel, Chris Evans. I’ll kneel down and beg you, please let me stay in New York City. I promise not to disrupt Rebeccaana’s life. As long as you allow me to see her occasionally, I’ll be satisfied.”
Chris, with a mind burdened by vexation and agitation, seized her from the ground and pressed her against the wall with an unfathomable expression that mixed grimness and unfeelingness.
“I didn’t let you die in prison. I’ve done my best. If you dare to mention Rebeccaana, I’ll strangle you
right now.”
There was a strong hand around her neck, and the threat of danger lingered. The intense pain
drained the color from Rebecca Gadot’s face,
“Strangle me, and Rebeccaana will hate you for the rest of her life.”
Chris’s pupils contracted, and his daughter’s innocent voice echoed in his mind. “Dad, where is
Mom? I want Mom!”
He was suddenly startled and immediately released his grip, Whereas Rebecca slid down the wall
and fell to the ground, gasping for breath,
Chris hadn’t expected this woman to become even more stubborn after her release from prison. He turned around and noticed the wine bottle on the table. A sneer formed on the corner of his mouth.
“Since you want to stay and suffer, I’ll let you.”
Before Rebecca could comprehend what was happening, the sound of shattering wine bottles and
glasses echoed through the private room.
“Come over and clean up. You’re not allowed to use any tools, only your hands.”
Faced with Chris’s childish and cruel behavior, Rebecca’s anger was about to explode. In order to
force her to leave, he would go to any lengths.
Rebecca endured the grief that filled her chest, fighting back the tears that threatened to fall. She
stood up and walked over.
The more aggressive he became, the less she could back down.
Glass shards were scattered everywhere, and it took Rebecca over an hour to pick them up. Her back ached, and her fingers were cut multiple times, blood seeping from the wounds.

After collecting the glass shards, she knelt on the ground and wiped the floor with a rag. She kept her head lowered, ignoring Chris’s cold and piercing gaze behind her.
“Rebecca Gadot, you brought this upon yourself.”
The firm footsteps gradually faded away. Rebecca slowly raised her head, Chris’s back was just as ruthless as it had been four years ago.
Rebecca knew that the days ahead would be challenging, but she didn’t regret her decision tonight.
When manager learned that Rebecca had injured a guest with a wiper, the manager severely scolded her without discrimination.
The manager did not punish her physically because she was a newcomer, In the end, she was punished by cleaning the toilets for a month and had half a month’s salary deducted.
Rebecca swallowed her anger and didn’t offer any explanations. She silently accepted all the punishments. She couldn’t against him. She didn’t have money to live.
At three in the morning, Rebecca dragged her exhausted body back to the dormitory, took a quick shower, and fell asleep.
After a while, she abruptly opened her eyes and sat up, screaming mixed with tears. Her limbs were numb, and her forehead was covered in cold sweat.
She had a nightmare. Rebecca dreamed that her father killed her mother, then left New York City with his lover, changing their names to live elsewhere. His lover even gave birth to a child for him, and the three of them were happy.
Tears flowed uncontrollably. Although it was just a dream, it felt like a real event. The more she thought about it, the more terrifying it became.
Rebecca couldn’t calm down for a long time. Under the grip of darkness and fear, she became even more anxious to know her mother’s whereabouts.
During the day, Malena’s Meadow was closed, so Rebecca took the opportunity to visit the former Gadot family home.
The same middle–aged maid from yesterday answered the door, and her eyebrows slightly furrowed when she saw Rebecca’s face.
“Miss Gadot, I made it clear yesterday. Why are you still here?”

“Madam, please don’t misunderstand. I’m not here to cause trouble,” Rebecca said gently.
“Then what are you doing here?“, The maid asked with high pitch.
Rebecca felt embarrassed and said, “I can’t contact my family. I wanted to ask if my father mentioned where he would settle down when he sold the house to your young master.”
The maid pondered for a moment. “I’m not sure about that. I’ll have to ask my young master.”
Rebecca felt a glimmer of hope and looked at the maid earnestly. “Madam, I know it’s presumptuous, but is your young master at home now? I’d like to speak with him in person. Is that possible?”
The maid hesitated for à moment, but seeing Rebecca’s pitiful state, she eventually led her into the
mansion.
The living room was spacious and bright, with a familiar layout. The new owner of the house hadn’t made any renovations; everything was kept as it was.
The moment she stepped inside, Rebecca was overcome with mixed emotions, almost feeling as if she had traveled back four years in time.
Amidst her excitement, an idea sprouted in her mind–to work hard and earn enough money to buy
the house back.
Lost in her thoughts, she didn’t pay attention to the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs.
“Hello, Miss Gadot, I’m Ethan Grayson.”
Rebecca Gadot stood up awkwardly. “Hello, Mr. Grayson. I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you coming down.
the stairs.”
“It’s alright. Please have a seat,” Ethan Grayson said, his demeanor amicable and unaffected.
In the next moment, as he looked at her face clearly, he was extremely surprised.
“It’s you?”
