Chapter 14
After breakfast, Rebecca stared out at the threatening sky.
She overheard the housekeeper telling Chris that the three men were still standing outside, refusing
to leave.
“Ignore them,” she said flatly, then turned to Chris.
“Don’t deliberately tell me these things. You know my history with them. But I married yo. That
means I’ve let go.”
Caught in his little scheme, Chris didn’t even look embarrassed.
“Now, let’s talk about why you act like you’ve known me for years.”
His smile faltered awkwardly at her question.
Should he really admit he’d fallen for her photo after finding her student ID? Or how he’d become completely smitten after watching her defend bullied students?
He hesitated for a moment and decided on honesty.
“We went to the same high school…”
Rebecca frowned. “How come I don’t remember you?”
“I hadn’t been taken in by the Evans family yet. Once they claimed me, I transferred out.”
“That explains it.”
BOOM!
A loud crack of thunder echoed outside, startling them both.
Then the skies opened up into a downpour.
They continued their conversation, eager to learn more about each other.
Meanwhile, those three stood in the torrential rain, forgotten and refused to leave.

The rain was brutal but couldn’t wash away their pain.
“I thought I loved Ariana… so why does Rebecca’s marriage hurt so much?” Anton mumbled.
His words left the other two speechless.
Anton let out a hollow laugh. “You think she’ll ever forgive us?”
“Of course she will. Rebecca’s always been soft–hearted toward us. Once she sees us standing in the rain, she’ll definitely come out.”
“Right. She always cares about us.”
The three men stood deluding themselves until Loki’s body gave out and he collapsed.
The others tried to help him up, but their own legs gave out.
By the time Ariana arrived at the Evans estate, she found all three lying unconscious in the rain.
Panic flared in her chest as she pulled out her phone and called for an ambulance.
“This patient recently donated a kidney and hasn’t fully recovered. The rain exposure has caused a dangerous fever.”
“These two suffered significant blood loss recently. Their bodies are too weak to fight off the fever from the rain exposure.”
At the hospital, Ariana exhausted herself caring for all three men.
She wiped their foreheads and monitored their IV drips.
Darth and Anton woke up first. Seeing themselves in the hospital, they assumed Rebecca had brought them there.
Looking at the still–unconscious Loki and feeling their own weakness, they didn’t mind their
condition so much.
Outside the room, they heard footsteps approaching.
Both of them perked up, eyes fixed on the door.
“Rebec-”

Their words died as Ariana walked in. Their faces fell with unmistakable disappointment.
“Darth! Anton! You’re awake!” Ariana exclaimed, not noticing they’d started to say Rebecca’s name.
“I was so worried about you…”
She approached Darth’s bed and reached out to check his temperature, but he flinched away.
“You….” Ariana’s eyes welled up with tears.
“I’m fine. Go check on Anton.” Darth didn’t understand why, but he didn’t want her touching him.
“I’m okay too. Better look after Loki.” Despite seeing Ariana’s hurt expression, Anton also felt
indifferent to her distress.
“You’re both being so cruel…” She turned away, clearly expecting them to apologize and comfort her.
After waiting in vain, she realized something was wrong. When she turned back, both men were
staring silently at the ceiling, lost in thought.
Just as she was about to speak, Loki regained consciousness.
“Loki, you’re finally awake! You won’t believe how they-”
Having just awakened to Ariana’s non–stop chatter, Loki felt his head pounding. He cut her off.
“Shut up!”
Ariana froze in shock. What was happening? Why were they all treating her this way?
Loki watched her tears form but felt only irritation rather than his usual concern.
